Assessing Your Needs: Is NDIS Short-Term Accommodation Right for Your Goals

Short Term Accommodation, which includes respite care, is a form of support that provides temporary accommodation when the participant needs to stay away from home for a brief period. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for Short Term Accommodation under the Core Supports budget category when the need for it is directly related to the participant’s disability. Both the participant and their caregivers benefit from this NDIS-funded support as it offers a temporary respite from the regular routine for both parties involved.

Short Term Accommodation (STA) aims to help participants develop new skills, build their confidence, and enhance their independence, all while maintaining the level of assistance that they require to go about their day. STA funding not only covers the cost of temporary accommodation but also includes personal care, food and assistance with any other activities that have been agreed upon by the participant and their service provider. Short Term Accommodation including respite support could be the right option for you if you are:

  • In search of opportunities to try new things.
  • Interested in developing your skills.
  • Seeking to expand your social circle and make new friends
  • Looking to give your informal support a break while maintaining the required

assistance.

Participants can access up to 28 days of Short-Term Accommodation per year in a flexible manner. That means you can make use of it for a period of up to 14 days at a stretch, or one weekend per month.

Classy Life believes in bringing out the best in our participants and in helping them make the most out of their NDIS support. If you are looking for a change and want to explore new skills, we can help you access Respite Support Care in your NDIS plan. Contact us today to know more.

Understanding the Roles and Responsibilities of NDIS Short-Term Accommodation Provider

A Short-Term Accommodation (STA) or Respite Service Provider delivers essential support and services for those participants who want to take a short break from their normal routine and wishes to stay somewhere away from home for a brief period. The NDIS will bear the cost of their care including food, accommodation, capacity-building activities and other important support that the participant needs. Apart from helping the participants to pursue new things and build new skills, STA service also provides respite for the regular carers of the participant by giving them a break from their usual care duties.

The primary responsibility of the STA provideris to deliver the necessary support for the participant at the respite lodging safely and efficiently. They have to arrange clean and well-maintained accommodations for the participants to stay in. Short-Term Accommodation is usually a shared support where the participant will have to share their lodging and supports with other participants. Depending upon the disability needs of the participant, the STA providers may sometimes have to provide individual support as well. Providers should also arrange for activities that build the skills of the participant, with their consent and approval which best aligns with their NDIS goals.

If the participant wants to pursue something new like a social or recreational activity, the STA providers can assist the participants in accessing those during the respite period. Providers should also respect the independence and autonomy of the participants at all times.
