The 10 Questions Most Business Owners Like You Have About SEO: Question Number 2

From a business perspective, this is one of the most important and most common questions about SEO. Unfortunately, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. The timeline for seeing results from SEO efforts can vary widely depending on a number of factors.

One of the main factors that impacts how quickly you see results from SEO is the competitiveness of your industry and the keywords you’re targeting. If your industry is highly competitive where you have lots of other businesses vying for the same keywords, then it will take longer to see results than if you had been in a less competitive industry. Similarly, if you’re targeting keywords that are very broad or general, it will take longer to see results than if you target more specific, niche terms.

Let us give you an example. Suppose you sell sofas. Then the competition for the keyword ‘sofa’ will be much more than say for ‘4-seater sofa’ or ‘cane sofa’ or ‘sofa for small living rooms’. So you will see results faster if you target the niche keywords than the generic term, ‘sofa’.

Another factor that will impact the timeline for seeing results from search optimisation is the current state of your website. If your website has a lot of technical issues or is not optimised for search engines, it may take longer to see results than if your website is already in a good shape. Similarly, if you have a lot of low-quality or irrelevant content on your website, it may take longer to see results than if you have a strong foundation of high-quality, relevant content.

All that being said, there are some general timelines that businesses can expect when it comes to seeing results from SEO efforts. According to a study by Ahrefs, it takes an average of 3–6 months to see results from SEO efforts. However, this timeline can vary depending on the factors mentioned above. Google itself has said that it may take up to one year for your website to show up in search results. You should consult a web marketing company to understand how you can get ahead in search engine rankings in 6 months to a year.

From what we have seen in the last 15+ years of being involved in SEO, it takes 3–6 months for your website to show up in search results and another 6–12 months of continuous, regular SEO to stabilise these numbers and make it to the first page of search results. However, this (i.e. the first page search results) will depend on whether you have put in the right amount of effort in SEO. For instance, if you put in the same effort for, say, a niche keyword as you do more a more generic keyword, then there are more chances of your site appearing for the niche keyword than for the generic one after one year of continuous SEO efforts.
