The worldwide rate of abortion is increasing each year. This factor can be understood by taking loot at its cause. Most countries around the world have legalized abortions, the State departments are working well to ensure that all abortions are reported properly, and the abortion process has itself got simpler.

However, there is another side to the coin too. Most abortions today, for example, are because of unwanted teenage pregnancies.

Let us assume two scenarios.

If Person X comes and tells you "Worldwide, there are many deaths happening per day." Next day, Person Y comes and tells "The annual number of deaths across the world per day is approximately 153,424.70". The question is, how do you react to both of them?

Perhaps you would act like its nothing new to the first statement. But the second statement would definitely leave anyone wondering about the number "153,424.70" that is incredibly high. Of course, no one actually believes in stuff until and unless it is proven with actual figures and facts. The statistics given below will enlighten you about the rate of abortions throughout the world.

Based on the information from a lot of statistics taken, it is found that the number of abortions varies from region to region. Developing regions are found to show high figures compared to developed regions. Also, abortion has been legalized in some places (For example in India, abortion is legalized only within 20 days of pregnancy). In officially recognized regions the abortions are safer to a large extent whereas, in the other regions, abortions can be dangerous and risky.

In 2003, the Guttmacher Institute found that about 42 million abortions have taken place throughout the world that was surprisingly less compared to the figures of 1995(46 million). This report was funded by the World Health Organization. According to the trend, the figures kept declining in the time span of 8 years that is from 1995-2003.After 2003, they stayed practically in the same figures till 2008. In 2008, it was found that about 43.8 million babies have been aborted. On a rough scale basis, almost 22% of the pregnancies meet the ill fate of abortion. Out of all the women who undergo abortion more than half are women with less than 25 years of age. Basing on all these estimations it is shocking to know that 43% of the women are expected to undergo an abortion before they cross 45 years.
