TOI puts together a list of fashion staples to make your Uttarayan celebrations stylish
If fashion is all about flaunting the latest trends whilst mixing various older trends and surprising yourself and others, then Uttarayan is one festival where you have ample scope to flaunt your fashionable avatar. Celebrate this festival by adding loads of fun and oodles of style with some simple and quick fashion guidelines.
Trends to look out for
Though Uttarayan is all about flying kites and gorging on some delicious Gujarati delicacies, it's also time to bring out your stylish best and get noticed by your cute neighbour. "From high boots to ankle length boots, oversized scarves, thin cardigans, winter vests, palazzos, peplums to bright toned jackets, girls can experiment with many options. If you want to try something Indian, then team a fitted jeans, plain kurti with a mirror-work vest," says designer Kalgi Shah.
For men, plain or striped Chinese collared shirts teamed with ripped jeans, quirky printed shoes and reflective glasses are instant hits. They can also try a more relaxed look by wearing quirky printed tees with fitted jeans and boots. Jodhpuri pants teamed with kurta also add a lot of style. Adding a printed muffler or even a Fedora hat to the simple tees and jeans look, will look stylish. Bermuda shorts with tees and vest is a very stylish and comfortable look. If you want to try and be a little edgy, then add suspenders or even a casual bow tie to your formal look," suggest Kalgi.
Style meets comfort
Designer Swati suggests that while one needs to look stylish, comfort is essential. She says, "Girls can wear culottes with a crop top. Adding stylish sneakers to their plain Jane look, or even wearing Birkenstock can up the style quotient. Men can add jackets in pastel shades or earthy hues. Washed blue jeans with a plain white shirt and black belt with boots will never go out of style and tops the comfort and style elements."
Girls can mix comfort and style by wearing high waist palazzo with crop tops, or ripped jeans with tees, jackets and high boots. Add a bright colored printed stole to pep your look. You can go for a fish braid or French plait for a little extra zing.

Wayfarers, aviators, reflective glasses and cat-eyed glasses are selling like hot cakes. One can also experiment with footwear like brogues, quirky printed shoes, moccasins, classic or peppy sneakers and loafers. From bandana, straw hats, warrior hats, skull caps to woollies or fedora, the options are many.
Must have staples
There are certain must-have fashion staples which will never go out of style. "Uttarayan is one of the best times to flaunt your eye wear, so keep your best options handy. Make sure to use UV protected sunglasses," says Taksh Rawal, a kite enthusiast.
"For girls, thin cardigans in pleasant tones are a must have, as it serves the purpose of keeping you warm and makes you comfortable during flying kites. Ankle length boots not only look stylish but will protect your feet from the harsh threads of the kites that usually gets accumulated on the terrace. Scarves or stoles in bold colours are also an instant eye-catchers," says Shikha Jain, another kite enthusiast.

From wayfarers, reflective glasses, aviators, cat-eyed glasses one can flaunt many options. However sunglasses with UV protection are your best bet.
Headgears/hats
One can also experiment with headgears or hats. Be it bandanas, straw hats, warrior hats,skull caps, woollies and even Fedora still rule the chart.
Jackets
From plain pastel hues, to floral prints, to printed or quirky jackets to ones in solid earthy hues, jackets add glam and protects you from harsh sunrays and kite threads.
