Orthodontics, is the specialty of dentistry that is concerned with the treatment of malocclusions (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic treatment can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal with the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as "dentofacial orthopaedics".

Braces are mostly used in orthodontic treatment for straightening teeth or closing gaps to achieve a perfect smile. Braces can do wonders for your self-confidence and self-esteem. By "straightening" your teeth, it helps to improve your smile and makes you feel good about yourself and your appearance. There will also be an overall improvement in your dental health as it will be easier to brush teeth that are well-aligned rather than those which are "crooked" and crowded together.

Orthodontic treatment can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the general appearance of patient’s teeth.

This can be of 2 types:

  • Removable appliances which can be easily removed and replaced in the mouth.
  • Fixed appliances are cemented to the teeth or attached by an adhesive material.

Depending on the severity of the case, your doctor will suggest which type of treatment (fixed orthodontic treatment Or removable orthodontic treatment) is suitable for you
