BMW Performance Parts: Burger Motorsports
Posted: Jan 15, 2015
There are many manufacturers out there for BMW performance parts—Active Autowerke, Cobb, Dinan, etc. There are many options when it comes to wheels, exhaust products, intercoolers, supercharger kits and more, but my favorite is Burger Motorsports.
Burger Motorsports product line includes performance hardware like their Dual Cone Performance Intake Kit. This kit on a BMW N54 direct injection twin-turbocharged engine can achieve gains of 15+ horse at the wheels without any additional modifications. They also have miscellaneous products like their Metal Jack Pad adapters, which safely jack up your BMW at any of the 4 factory jack points, among a host of other cool interior and exterior BMW products. But most prized of all is Burger Motorsports’ innovative line of tuning products, known to boost horsepower and torque at the best bang for your buck.
Have you ever heard of the JB3 or JB4? Then you must already be aware that Burger Tuning is amongst the top of the line for BMW ECU upgrades. They have tunes for the N54, N55, N20/N26, N52, N63, M & Diesel engines.
For those of you that are not familiar, Burger Tuning’s JB4 is a piggyback system that tricks the ECU through various sensors into exceeding stock limits from the motor to make more boost and hence yield more power.
While many argue that these methods push the factory ECU past its stock settings and can damage the motor, the counterargument is that the stock ECU is advanced enough to know how to protect itself from any damage. Ultimately, the JB4 has proved its performance and reliability for many years, satisfying customers with rare occurrences of damage. At around $500 you achieve more power with a JB4 than what you typically get from a Dinan flash, which is significantly more expensive.
Specifically, the E9x is the 4th evolution of the BMW 3 series including a highly tuned twin turbo 335i variant pushing out 300hp with 300 ft/lbs of torque. Burger Motorsport’s N54 JB4 Performance Tuner costs less than $500 and can add 100 horse to your twin turbo instantly. Burger Motorsports claims it reaches 80hp to the wheels on a stock car, up to 160 to the wheels on factory turbos and up to 350hp to the wheels on modded bimmers.
In addition to the performance features, the JB4 also offers several performance maps and additional features including a 100% stock bypass map, valet mode, ethanol fuel (E85) support, racing fuel map, and more. There are also optional in dash gauges for boost and other parameters.
Burger Motorsports tuning solutions are basically plug and play, no need for additional hardware. Simply install the JB4 and reap the benefits of a newer, faster BMW. But don’t just trust me. Feel free to do your research and see what everyone’s saying. There are countless reviews and videos of the JB4 in action from Burger Tuning customers. Otherwise, feel free to contact your local tuner for expert advice.
