Serena and Venus Williams take a break from training to hit designer shops and stock up on Alice McCall clothes ahead of Australian Open

They're known for their killer instinct on court and are currently preparing to shut down world class competition in the upcoming Australian Open.

But even tennis' power sisters Serena and Venus Williams, world number one and 18 respectively, need to take a break from their demanding training sessions sometimes for some retail therapy.

On Wednesday Serena, 33, and Venus, 34, flexed their sartorial muscles as they made a beeline Melbourne's fashion juggernaut, Chapel Street.

Showing off their impeccable taste the American sportswomen hit the rails of London-born Australian designer Alice McCall, known for her whimsical, feminine designs, championed by the likes of model Kate Moss.

The sisters beamed happily as they posed in front of a clothing rail filled with the beautiful garments, showing off the fruits of their shopping labour.

Looking relaxed and happy the tennis stars were dressed casually for the shopping trip with Serena wearing an apple green T-shirt, cropped Nike track and black runners.

Sporting matching smiles, Serena wore her mane of jet black hair out, while Venus donned a headscarf dressed in a white singlet, denims and silver ballet shoes.

The famous siblings flexed their credit cards scooping up a slew of enviable threads including the label's Smile Because black skirt, If You Feel playsuit, Velvet Orchid dress At First Sight playsuit, amongst others.

Serena and Venus will hit the Australian Open courts next week with play starting on Monday 19 January after the results of the hotly anticipated draw are announced on Friday.

The 18-time Glam Slam winner Serena will be gunning for her sixth Australian Open title after failing to make it past the quarter final since her last win in 2010.

Meanwhile Venus will be starting on good form after winning the ASB Classic last week, beating Caroline Wozniacki 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in Auckland her first win since February.

Last year's winner China's Li Na has retired, but the sisters will face stiff competition from world number two Maria Sharapova, who won the Brisbane International last weekend.

Meanwhile former world number one Victoria Azarenka, who won the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013, might draw a top seed in the early rounds after she dropped from the top 32.
