3 Female Style Icons Under 30
Posted: Jan 24, 2015
It seems that every couple of years or so an older generation of actresses makes way for the new ones. Yes, turning 30 is, for most normal people, something of a milestone, but in Hollywood, that surely signifies that you’ll be competing with Meryl Streep for roles from now on. Okay, fine, maybe it’s not that bad, but there is certainly a freshness and a dewiness to the younger set, in particular the young women who have made such a huge impact before they’ve lived out three whole decades. But despite their youth and beauty, it’s still somewhat remarkable when they have managed to carve out a hallowed place among the older style icons. There are plenty of young fashionistas in Hollywood, but only a set few achieve iconic status at such a fledgling age. You might credit their stylists, but we get the feeling that a lot of them are just doing what they do best – being young and having fun with all the money they’re making. And why not? Clothes are more than just garments, and style is more than just a buzzword, even if your job doesn’t include walking red carpets. So a tip of the hat to you young ladies, you paragons of fashion who haven’t yet hit your 30th birthday.
Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence, born in just 1990, has been having quite a career, with her first Hollywood picture – Winter’s Bone – nabbing her an Academy Award nomination when she was only 20. How does one top that? How about winning the Oscar in 2012 for Silver Linings Playbook! And then she received a third nomination in 2013 for her insanely delicious role in American Hustle. Whew. She’s also the star of the mega-hit machine known as the Hunger Games films. And every red carpet she appears on sizzles thanks to her presence, whether it was her jaw-dropping red Calvin Klein sheathe at the 2011 Golden Globes or her show-stopping gown the year she won the Oscars (when she tripped going up to accept the statuette). But at least half of her appeal is that moment she breaks the sultry expression and makes some truly goofy face at a friend.
Kendall Jenner
Love them or hate them, the Kardashians have established themselves on the Hollywood scene, and no one has emerged with her own unique style like Kendall Jenner, born in 1995, daughter of Kris Jenner and Bruce Jenner. One of two statuesque beauties – sis Khloe is also five foot 10, while older sibs Kim and Kourtney are much shorter – Kendall parlayed reality fame into a fashion modeling career, and she’s very much in demand. She can definitely shop for urban fashion and rock a pair of black skinny leggings with sky-high heels, but her most epic moment so far has been an outstandingly risqué yet undeniably gorgeous gown by Fausto Puglisi at the MuchMusic Video Awards – it featured two slits up the front which extended past her hip-bones!
Miley Cyrus
In 1992 Miley Cyrus was born to country rocker Billy Ray Cyrus, and the world would never be the same again. After many years as something like a Disney princess, Miley defied all expectations and transformed into a much edgier young woman with a clear, definitive and personalized point of view. While her combat boots/tank top/skivvies look won’t be catching on with teens anytime soon (at least if their parents have anything to say about it), her flair for the avant-garde is infectious. She showed up to numerous red carpets in two-piece outfits and gowns with a definite "gothic" overtone – and she looked great and seemed to having a lot of fun while doing so.
About the Author: Lauren C. Larson is a contributing writer and style editor for her local newspaper, and while she personally does not look good with a bleach-blonde pixie cut, she thinks Miley Cyrus has that look on lock-down.
