2015 Jeep Wrangler vs. 2015 Mazda CX-5
Posted: Jan 25, 2015
The 2015 Jeep Wrangler was manufactured to provide pure adventure behind the wheel. As an off-road utility vehicle, its capabilities are endless both on trails and on the open road. From the removable tops and doors to its all-weather abilities, the 2015 Wrangler truly provides adventurous driving that is desired in any sports utility vehicle.
The 2015 Mazda CX-5 on the other hand is a compact crossover sports utility vehicle that offers a lightweight platform. It is good on fuel consumption, has plenty of passenger room at the back and it is fun to drive.
Size and Dimensions
The Jeep Wrangler is wider in size than the Mazda CX-5 so in terms of parking space, the Mazda CX-5 will have an advantage if parking lots have narrower sections. However, the Jeep has a smaller turning angle that allows it to easily move in and out of tighter spaces.
4x4 Capabilities
The 2015 Jeep Wrangler‘s four-wheel drive capability is superb. It has durable shock absorbers and axles to smoothly maneuver over rocks, rugged terrains and in the mud. The Wrangler is capable to travel places that most other compact SUVs cannot. The Mazda CX-5 on the other hand does well in snow and slippery roads but it's not designed for driving perfectly in mud or much rugged terrains.
Drivetrain and Acceleration
The Wrangler has a higher torque, which enables it to perform better when transmitting the engine horsepower to its wheels. The Mazda CX-5 lags behind in this aspect. Also the Mazda CX-5 has only 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine so its acceleration is a little sluggish when compared to the Jeep Wrangler's 3.6 liter V6 engine.
Passenger Comfort
Mazda CX-5 has more passenger legroom, which provides more comfort for the back seat passengers. It also has more seating at the back that makes it ideal if one has to carry a lot of passengers. The Wrangler on the other hand has less room for passengers on the back and also less trunk space, but the driver and front passenger enjoys more legroom because the Wrangler offers more front head space.
Fuel Economy
The Mazda CX-5 has impressive fuel consumption, consuming only 35 miles per gallon on the highway; while the Jeep Wrangler consumes 21 miles per gallon in the same conditions.
Price
The 2015 basic Jeep Wrangler starts at $23,690 but the fully loaded Rubicon or Sahara goes as high as $40,000. The 2015 Mazda CX-5 starts at a base price of $21,545 as stated on Mazdausa.com. Price wise, the Jeep is more expensive than the Mazda CX-5.
