Ram trucks are known for a tough truck that can handle just about any element, while also offering options and features that can compete with a luxury sedan. The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel recently received the highest honor of Esquire Magazine's Truck of the Year.

Esquire Magazine considers every truck on the U.S. marketplace and compares their fuel efficiency, functionality, safety, value, style and versatility. After a series of tests, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel stood out for its universality across all lifestyles.

What is the EcoDiesel?

The all-new 2014 Dodge Ram EcoDiesel is powered by a state of the art V6 engine. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel offers 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, giving this groundbreaking truck the ability to tow up to 9,200 lbs. While the towing capabilities are close to that of the V8 Hemi, the fuel economy in this truck resembles that of a mid-sized sedan. The 3.0L EcoDiesel is rated to achieve 20 miles per gallon in the city and 28 on the highway, better than any other pickup on the market.

In addition to the improved fuel economy, one gallon of diesel fuel will take you farther than a normal gallon of gas. This means you can spend more time on the road, and less time filling up at the pump. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel can drive up to 728 miles on one tank, which is 100 miles more than its competitors.

What Options Are Available?

Ram trucks are designed to appeal to buyer in every market. EcoDiesel trims include the following:

  • Tradesman
  • Lone Star
  • Big Horn
  • Outdoorsman
  • Laramie
  • Laramie Longhorn
  • Laramie Limited

The models come in quad cab and crew cab options, as well as regular cab models when equipped with the long box.

Interior

The Ram 1500 models offer cozy seats and a new wheel. To make drivers even more comfortable - the seat, steering column and optional power-pedals are all adjustable. The 2014 model is quieter than previous models, and the V6 makes no noise when changing gears.

How Much?

The price point on the new Ram is surprisingly affordable. Starting at just under $27,000 for the base model, it is one of the most affordable pickups in its class. Options increase the total price, however, the price even the most loaded EcoDiesel will cost less than the competition.
