Google stated that sites that notice a change following a spam update should evaluate their spam policies and confirm that they comply. Sites that break Google’s spam regulations may rank lower in search results or not appear at all. If a site makes improvements and the automated algorithms learn that the site has complied with spam policies for several months, the site will expand and appear higher in search results.

Google considers spam low-quality sites that deceive users into revealing personal information or installing malware. Other sorts of spam include phishing scams, websites masquerading as respectable sites, and anything with malicious purposes.
