Express Entry 67 vs CRS Points Calculator: What's the difference?
Posted: Feb 24, 2024
If you are planning to move to Canada, you may have already heard about the Express Entry’s 67 and CRS points calculator. Both of them are the commonly used points system to check PR eligibility for Canada.
Applicants who apply for PR through Express Entry have to go through two stages. First, their eligibility is calculated based on points given in the 67-point calculator. Once they are in the Express Entry pool – where their profile is ranked against other potential candidates – they are assigned a score based on the CRS points calculator.
Before you move on with the process of applying for Canadian immigration, you must understand the difference between the two for a smooth application process.
What is a 67-Points Calculator?
No doubt that Express Entry is one of the best ways to move to Canada. The Government of Canada uses this system to manage PR applications from skilled workers. The first step to applying for Canada PR through Express Entry is to use a 67-points calculator 2024 to check if you qualify for the program or not.
The calculator uses various factors to assess your profile and gives you a score out of 100. You need to score 67 out of 100 to apply for a Canada PR Visa through the Express Entry program. The following factors to calculate eligibility points:
Age: 12 points max.
Language Skills: 28 points max.
Education: 25 points max.
Work Experience: 15 points max.
Adaptability: 10 points max.
Arranged Employment: 10 points max.
Once you gain 67 points and have met the requirements, you can go ahead and create a profile in the Express entry program.
If you are not able to score 67 points or higher, you can increase your PR Visa score by:
Improving your language skills
Getting a job offer from a Canadian employer
Pursuing a higher degree, diploma, or certificate
What is a CRS Points Calculator?
On the other hand, CRS or Comprehensive Ranking System is a tool used to calculate a score for your profile to rank it in the federal Express Entry pool.
You can only use a CRS Score Calculator only under the following conditions:
If you are eligible to apply for one of the three Express Entry Streams – FSWP, FSTP, or CEC.
If you are yet to create an Express Entry profile but want to calculate your CRS score instantly.
If you received an ITA to apply for permanent residency and want to see if an update in your profile may affect your current CRS score.
The CRS points calculator takes into account the same factors as the 67 points calculator like age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. CRS Calculator includes a core set of up to 600 points and an additional set of up to 600 points. You get a final CRS score out of 1,200.
Core Points: 600 max.
Human Capital factors + Spouse or Common-law Partner factors: 500 max. (with OR without a Spouse or Common-law Partner)
Skill Transferability factors: 100 points max.
Additional points: 600 max.
The Canadian Government conducts Express Entry draws regularly, and candidates with the highest CRS scores are selected to apply for PR. There is no minimum CRS score required as it varies from draw to draw. The higher your score is, the more chances you have of getting selected to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR.
If you a lower than the cut-off CRS, here are some ways to increase it:
Retake the language test
Get a provincial nomination
Secure an LMIA-approved job offer
Include Common-Law Partner/ Spouse
Both Express Entry 67 and the CRS points calculator are important tools to know your eligibility for immigrating to Canada. While the 67-point calculator is used to check your eligibility for Canada PR, the CRS points calculator allows you to calculate your CRS score to get an invitation to apply for PR in the next Express Entry draws. Use both to identify the areas you lack in and improve your score accordingly.
