A torque wrench is like all other wrenches and helps tighten or loosen the nuts and bolts in the vehicles and machinery. The industrial torque wrenches are widely used in industries for electrical and mechanical purposes. The ‘torque’ wrench however comes with certain extra features. They give an indication to the operator when he has applied a certain amount of torque or when he has tightened a bolt to a specific level. This is really a very useful feature as this will help you avoid any kind of extra tightening. Remember excess tightening of bolts and nuts can damage the threads to a great extent.

There are many types of high quality torque wrenches available in the market. Each of them has specific characteristics useful for varied project uses. The first among them is the beam type that has a long lever arm between the head and the handle. The material used is also very flexible which is very useful when some amount of torque is applied. Near the back of the head of this type of wrench there is a small bar with an indicator. This indicator is kept level with the lever arm and thus any strain on the smaller bar is avoided. When you move the main lever the scale also moves and when the required amount of torque has been applied then the lever stops.

The next type of popular industrial torque wrench is the one with the deflecting beam which is also called the dual-signal deflecting beam. This tool does not work on the principle of a coil spring but it works by applying torque to a deflecting beam. This really helps the torque wrench to function accurately as the user is able to get consistent and accurate reading every time. The greatest advantage of this tool is that the user gets complete control over its use because the alerts are seen as well as heard. Low clearance torque wrenches are also available. An axial type torque tool is great for tightening of threaded electrical components. This type is needed in the fields of electronics, electrical, instrumentation and aircraft. This type of wrench is best suited to applications where very low torque is needed to be applied.

The click type of torque wrench is also very useful as they can be preset to get the necessary torque. This wrench makes a sound the moment the clutch slips on achieving the desired torque. The user can decide the amount of torque that is required to be obtained. Within this category of high quality torque wrenches a number of specifications are possible. This type is used to prevent the scooping of the head of the screws and is highly used in both industrial and mechanical set ups in a large scale.

Besides the above list, which is not all inclusive, there is a special kind of torque wrench which is referred to as the ‘no hub wrench’ meant for soil pipes. These are preferred largely by plumbers for the tightening various clamps. These tools have the combination of the ratchet and the clutch. The shaft of this type of wrench has a folding handle, which can be used to loosen the clamps.
