AFSPA: Home Minister Shah said - Will consider removal of AFSPA from Jammu and Kashmir, appreciate action of state police.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the Central Government will consider repealing the Armed Forces Act in Jammu and Kashmir.
During an interview, he said that the government is planning to withdraw the troops from there and leave law and order to the Jammu and Kashmir Police alone. He said that earlier Jammu and Kashmir police could not be trusted but now they are leading various operations.
Kya hota hai AFSPA :
Notably, the AFSPA empowers personnel of the armed forces, who are working in disturbed areas, to lock up, arrest and fire if necessary for the "maintenance of public order". An area or district is declared disturbed under AFSPA to facilitate the operation of armed forces.
Farooq-Mehbooba has no right to speak on terrorism During the interview, Shah targeted opposition leaders Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. Shah said that both the leaders have no right to speak on terrorism. As many fake encounters have happened in their time, they have never happened. Not a single fake encounter has taken place in the last five years. Rather, an FIR has been registered against those involved in the fake encounters. We will talk with the youth of Kashmir and not with organizations that have their roots in Pakistan.
Government is breaking the back of terrorists :
Shah further said that the Modi government has banned 12 organizations for engaging in terrorist activities. 36 persons have been designated as terrorists. More than 22 cases have been registered to curb terror financing and assets worth Rs 150 crore have been seized. He said that 90 properties have also been attached and 134 bank accounts have been frozen.
In an interview, he stated that the government intends to remove the military from the area and give the Jammu and Kashmir Police exclusive authority over maintaining law and order. He claimed that although the Jammu and Kashmir police were unreliable in the past, they are currently in charge of numerous operations.
