Development of the Madden NFL game has quite the history. There are times when the game almost looked like it would not be launched. After 4 years in the making the game started slow, but with subsequent patches it caught on.

The loss of profit

When EA sports went public, they offered John Madden a part of the shares. This he turned down, which he considered his biggest mistake. However his dream was to be part of the sport even when he could not do much on the field. The game even had realistic commentary, and the voice over has been done by John Madden himself. He is still being consulted and paid for his insights into the game. However what he could have gained with the shares is unimaginable. The game has sold over 85 million copies worldwide.
