Best Benefits of LED Lights in the Home

If you are looking to make cost savings in the home, or you are concerned about the environmental impact of your lighting, there is one strategy you can take to guarantee success. Much has been said about the benefits of switching to LED (light emitting diode) lights from traditional bulbs but what exactly is the story? Why does it make sense to make the change to LED?

For starters, LEDs have a longer life than traditional bulbs. Many lights have an operating time of over 11 years continuous use – or 22 years if the bulbs are only on half the day. Compared to traditional bulbs this is a big improvement. If you have a large home or you own an office building, installing LEDs in the premises means you won’t have to worry about changing light bulbs any time soon. The mode of operation of the LED is slightly different, too. You don’t have the sudden loss of the bulb as you do with traditional lights – the LED doesn’t burn out and switch off. It actually dims over time so you still have the light even when it is not so bright.

Another big advantage of fitting LEDs in homes, offices, and commercial premises, according to electrical wholesalers, is for energy efficiency. Around 80 percent of the electrical energy used to work the LED is converted into light. Traditional bulbs lose as much as 80 percent of their power through heat. You are effectively spending money on heating a room – and not heating it very efficiently. With LEDs you save money because the energy goes into the light. LEDs are also more environmentally friendly because you save on the amount of materials and energy needed in production of the bulbs. Fewer bulbs on the landfill mean less waste and a cleaner environment. These bulbs also do not contain mercury or other hazardous materials.

LEDs are sturdy and hardwearing. These lights are ideal for outdoor conditions because they resist heat, shock, and the impact of things like mud, rain, and vibrations. LEDs continue to operate under conditions with low temperatures or hot temperatures – you can even use them in freezer rooms. Even inside a regular space, you can take advantage of the hardwearing properties of LED lights because you won’t have to replace them so often. LEDs are good for installation in places that are sensitive to UV light because they emit hardly any infrared or UV light. LEDs are used in museums and in art galleries, as well as specialist archaeological sites. Another advantage of LEDs is the flexibility you have in lighting design. Choose LEDs that are different colours, which can be dimmed, or placed within eye-catching lighting displays. LEDs are the natural choice for signage and make an impact in business publicity materials. LEDs disperse the light effectively because they can more efficiently deliver light to the place where it is needed.
