The Department of Civil Engineering at ABIT was founded in 2011 with the AICTE's approval. The department was founded with the assistance and direction of Piloo Moody College of Architecture, a 20-year-old architecture institute. 30 seats are available for intake every year.

The foundation of infrastructure development is civil engineering, which has changed significantly in the last several years as a result of new techniques and rapid technological advancement. The construction industry is undergoing a paradigm change towards sustainability, efficiency, and resilience. This movement is evident in several ways, including the adoption of smart infrastructure solutions and sustainable construction methods. The following are some noteworthy developments that will impact civil engineers in the future.

Green Building Technologies: Sustainability is the ultimate goal of contemporary civil engineering. The goal of green building technology is to maximize resource efficiency while reducing pollution to the environment. These days, energy-efficient materials, green roofs, and passive solar architecture are among the strategies used increasingly often in construction projects to lower carbon emissions and encourage environmentally beneficial behaviour.

Smart Infrastructure: Physical systems with sensors integrated into them allow for instantaneous performance monitoring and optimization through the use of actuators coupled to communication networks. Smart connections, thoroughfares, and buildings equipped with internet of Things (IoT) sensors can identify architectural flaws, vehicle flow patterns, and environmental conditions. This enables early or even preventive maintenance, which enhances efficiency and safety.

Advanced Materials: The development of advanced materials has had a significant impact on the field of civil engineering. Examples include ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), self-healing materials, and carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP), which offer greater strength, durability, and resilience than conventional building materials used elsewhere. These modern innovations improve infrastructure safety against potential disasters and lengthen its lifespan while also lowering maintenance expenses.

Automation and Robotics: Civil engineering is currently using automation and robotics to do a variety of jobs, including trench digging and site preparation. Autonomous drones and robots can be outfitted with sophisticated sensors and artificial intelligence algorithms to optimize construction procedures, augment security, and increase efficiency. These technologies reduce labour expenses and human error while facilitating speedier project completion.

By utilizing such innovative processes, ABIT students are bringing in infrastructure changes.
