Grades of OPC

OPC is available in three grades. These include OPC 33, OPC 43, and OPC 53 cement.

  • OPC 33 grade

At the end of 28 days of curing, OPC 33 grade has a minimum compressive strength of 33 MPa. It is commonly utilised for general construction needs. This grade of OPC is not recommended for structural elements or projects that require high strength. Instead, OPC 33 grade is suitable for applications like masonry, flooring, plastering, and non-structural works.

Due to its excellent workability, this grade of Grey Cement is a good choice for ordinary masonry projects where high strength is not required, and for plastering. OPC 33 Grade Cement can also be used for block-laying, bricklaying, and tile installation. The reduced strength of this grade of OPC makes working with and handling this cement easier in masonry projects.

It ensures the required workability for plastering floors, interior and exterior walls, and ceilings. Due to its lower rate of strength increase, its use is flexible. Since this cement grade strengthens over time, it can be used for site restoration projects and grouting.

  • OPC 43 grade

After 28 days of curing, this grade of OPC acquires a minimum compressive strength of 43MPa. It offers better resistance to cracking than OPC 33 Grade Cement, resulting in a smooth and closed surface. Due to its finer grains, it also provides ease of application and better workability in mortar and concrete. Due to its strength, this grade of OPC is used for bridges, concrete sleepers, dams, residential buildings, and other structures.

When choosing the best grade for plastering, OPC 43 usually provides enough strength and does not lead to material waste. Besides, it is an excellent all-purpose grade that might be used in most building projects. OPC 43 cement also offers the required durability and strength when building slabs, columns, walls, and other structural elements. It is suitable for commercial projects like hotels, shopping malls, offices, and hospitals.

OPC 43 cement is suitable for beams, foundations, pillars, and other load-bearing structures. It is also suitable for constructing walls, heavy-duty floors, and industrial structures that require high strength.

  • OPC 53 grade

This grade of OPC has a high compressive strength of 53 MPa after 28 days of curing. Since OPC 53 grade reaches a high power in a shorter period, it is utilised for projects that require quick removal of formwork. Consequently, there is a significant reduction in construction times and project costs. Among the different grades, OPC 53 Cement is used in heavy-duty concrete constructions, including high-rise buildings, bridges, and foundations.

It emerges as a standout choice when ascertaining which grade to use for slab construction. Due to its efficiency and strength, this grade of OPC is also used for roadways and concrete runways. OPC 53 cement is utilised for building tunnels, highways, and other infrastructure projects where strength and durability are crucial. To ensure longevity and strength, you can use this grade of OPC to construct individual houses, residential buildings, and commercial buildings.
