Tips For Creating The Ideal Promotional Pen Or Pencil

In many businesses there is a common practice for using small promotional items to help grow the company's brand. Many classes of business, especially those that deal with financial or educational situations, such as banks, loan companies, mortgage companies, schools, and clubs, all use small stationary items as promotional tools. Unless they opt for the more comically over sized version of a pen or pencil, it means that have quite a limited amount of space to work with. The real challenge to taking full advantage of custom promotional pens, is in how to convey the message you want, without making it unappealing to use.

Be Concise

When you don't have a lot of room for a picture, or characters to get a message across to clients, it is important to be concise and to the point. Simplified logos are ideal for promotional stationary items because they can be easily fit onto them without being distorted. A popular combination of messages and logos include simply using the company's logo with a contact phone number and/or website address. With today's social media, the use of Twitter hash tags is also becoming more common place as well. Other services or organizations will often put a simple message, such as "Spay or neuter your pets for their sake." may be on pens used and given away at an animal shelter, which may also have their contact information on it as well. The least amount of information that should be present is a company logo. The most should be used for words is a line or two of text that is easily legible.

Quality Cannot Be Overlooked

Custom promotional pens and pencils are some of the most affordable marketing tools available; however, when considering using them, it is imperative that quality not be overlooked. Paying a little extra and investing in quality writing utensils for promotional use says a lot more about the company than the words printed on them. Low quality pens that don't write smoothly or pencils that have weak lead cores are both things that can result in a negative view of the company whose logo is on them. The quality of the promotional item should be a direct statement about the quality of the company's service and wares.

Use Sensible Design Schemes

One aspect that many overlook is the color combination between their logo and the body of the pen or pencil. Bright and eye-catching colors are not always a fitting choice for certain businesses. Professional accounting firms and law practices are probably not going to be handing out neon pink and green pens. Whereas, a business such as a marina or beachfront club may make use of those casual and fun colors. When designing custom promotional pens for your business, consider not just the written message you want them to have, but the unspoken one as well. The three most important qualities to look for, beyond pricing, is the clarity in the message, the durability of the item, and the overall impression that is given by the general design. Just as the wrong written text can fail to convey your company or organization's message, so too can a poor choice in color schemes.
