Green HVDC Link to Modernize Mumbai's Grid and Meet Rising Electricity Demand
Posted: Aug 30, 2024
The one-billion-dollar Green HVDC link project, which is going to enable the city to receive more renewable energy and meet its rising electricity demand, was successfully closed financially, according to a Monday announcement from Adani Energy Solutions.
The credit facility is a component of the USD 700 million revolving finance for projects initiative that will be committed in October 2021 for the continuously operating transmission assets portfolio of AESL. Through the use of funds returned by other projects in the portfolio, this one-of-a-kind infrastructure financing framework for platforms ensures constant access to capital for upcoming projects in AESL's transmission portfolio.
Project will inject an additional 1,000 MW of renewable energy into Mumbai's grid
According to top business news, the Green HVDC link is crucial because Mumbai's peak demand for electricity is predicted to rise to 5,000 MW by FY25 compared to the present average of 4,000 MW. Due to grid constraints, the city experienced a significant power outage on October 12, 2020, due to capacity issues in the existing transmission corridors.
By creating a connection to both the state and the national grids, the HVDC transmission link is expected to improve grid stability. It will supply the city with an extra 1,000 MW of renewable energy, guaranteeing a steady supply in the future.
The country's largest power distribution company, Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd (AEML), has committed to reach a 60% renewable energy mix by 2027.
The 80- Kilometer project will modernize Mumbai's technology while navigating the challenges of constructing a project of this size in an area of high population density. Construction on the link is expected to begin in October 2023.
"This link will help the city's aspirations for growth and is urgently needed. It demonstrates our dedication to giving Mumbai a better, greener future. The project will hasten the city's transition to a net-zero carbon footprint, according to AESL's MD Anil Sardana.
The building has obtained Sustainalytics' prestigious "green loan" certification, demonstrating its support for the distribution of clean energy and compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the SDGs) of the United Nations.
Furthermore, it supports SDG 9, which places a focus on creating resilient, high-quality infrastructure to promote economic growth, based on business english news.
