Resistive and Reactive: Two Main Types of Load Bank

Construction sites require constant power so that the workers can use electrical equipment in order to complete the work. However, the problem is that a constant power supply is not always easy, especially in rural and uninhabited areas and due to this problem, backup power sources are in high in demand these days. Backup power supplies allow construction workers to continue their build without any interruption. Common problems of backup power sources
If a backup power source such as diesel engine powered generator is not used frequently or usually run on light load, it has higher chances of experiencing unburned fuel and soot buildup in the exhaust system. This problem is known as wet stacking and is one of the most common problems. When this condition arises, the generator is likely to perform poorly. This problem can even lead to complete failure. As with wet stacking, carbon buildup occurs when the generator runs at less than full load. If both these conditions remain unchecked, then you will not be able to get a constant power supply in case of sudden power failure. So, in order to avoid both these problems, you can't afford to avoid load bank.
Load bank test should be performed at 100% of the generator's KW capacity for at least 1hr and needs to be performed by stepping up the load at certain time intervals so that the generator can perform properly during an emergency. In most of the industries load bank test has become a regular part of the generator maintenance program.
Today, the market is flooded with two major types, reactive and resistive. Both these types of load bank are very high in demand and are being used by a large number of industries. A resistive load bank is the most common type and provides equivalent loading for both generators and prime movers. Whereas, a reactive load bank includes inductive and capacitive loads. Inductive load is the most common type, which is when used in conjunction with a resistive load bank create a lagging power factor.
