Organic and Inorganic Pigments

Posted: Feb 18, 2015
A Pigment is basically the substance which changes the color of light that passes through it. It is commonly used for coloring paints, plastics, cosmetics, food etc. Pigments are broadly divided into two categories i.e. Organic Pigments and Inorganic Pigments.
Organic Pigments: Organic Pigments are eco- friendly and thus safe to use. These pigments are suitable for a wide range of applications in rubber industries, cosmetic industries, plastic industries and many more. They are generally a little more expensive than Inorganic Pigments but their coloring strength is better than them. Red Rubine Toner Pigment and Blue Pigments are some examples in this category.
- Rubine Toner Pigment: Rubine Toner is a pigment used widely in Xerox printing processes, paint and leather industry, for rubber, paper and pulp coloring and for several other applications to impart a bright red color. It can be made in liquid and powdered form. Rubine Toner Pigment has moderate light fastness and poor weather fastness. Some Rubine Toner Pigment Manufacturers and Suppliers claim that their pigment is completely organic, but you should be wary in believing such claims.
- Blue Pigment: Blue Pigments are divided into two categories Alpha Blue Pigments and Beta Blue Pigments. Alpha Blue Pigments are known for their superior features like color fastness, purity and consistency. Beta Blue Pigments are essentially used in paints, and for removing yellow stains from cotton clothes. They are very eco friendly and stable in nature.
Inorganic Pigments: Inorganic Pigments are manufactured from topical cosmetics and dirt. If made properly and kept in appropriate conditions, these pigments are safe to use. They have a reasonably good coloring strength but it is lower than that of Organic Pigments. However, Inorganic Chrome Pigments are very high in demand because they come at a reasonable price and give satisfactory results. They are widely used in PVC pipe industry, adhesive industry, rubber industry etc. Lemon Chrome Pigment and Zinc Chrome Pigment are some examples of Inorganic Pigments.
- Lemon Chrome Pigment: Lemon Chrome Pigment used in various industries to impart a lemon-yellow color to products. It is resistant to heat, changes in weather and chemicals.
- Zinc Chrome Pigment: Zinc Chrome Pigment is highly toxic and therefore, it is applied to different surfaces to protect them from proliferation of organic matter. It is safe to use and provides resistance to corrosion. Moreover, it can quickly disperse, even at low concentrations.
Both Organic and Inorganic Pigments are used in different industries for imparting colors to a variety of products. For buying Pigments that are effective and safe in the longer run, choose your Pigment Manufacturer and Supplier carefully.
