Sodium Silicate is a chemical compound which is available in both liquid and solid form. The pure composition of sodium type of silicate is colorless or white but commercial samples are often greenish or blue because of presence of iron impurities. The Liquid type of Sodium Silicate is available in different grades like neutral sodium silicate and liquid and alkaline sodium silicate liquid. In industry, grades are characterized silicate: sodium weight ratio.

Alkaline Sodium Liquid: Grades which are below this ratio 2.85:1 are known as Sodium Silicate Alkaline Liquid.

Neutral Silicate Liquid: Grades which have higher ratio than alkaline are termed as Neutral.

Applications

Sodium Silicate type of liquids are basically used in detergent, paper industry, adhesive, and construction material. Let us understand the more wide applications of sodium silicate liquids:

  1. Ceramic Industries: In ceramic industries, these silicate is used as a deflocculant in preparation of casting slips, for keeping solid particles in suspension without settling. It can also be used for decorating surface to create a crackled surface textures on pots.
  2. Detergents and Soaps: Many detergent operations are performed by using sodium type of liquids. Metal cleaning, textile processing, laundering are such operations which are done by using detergents and soaps. Cleaning with alkaline solutions is the oldest form of commercial metal cleaning & sill the most widely used.
  3. Paper Industry: These liquid is widely used for de-inking, sizing, coating and bleaching of recycled paper products in the pulp and paper industry. It is used mainly with mechanical ground-wood pulps to upgrade newsprint stock, and with whiter goods such as toweling.
  4. Adhesive and Cements: Sodium liquids are widely used as adhesive in making fiber drums, paper tubes and other materials. It is an excellent adhesive for sealing fireboard boxes because it sticks quickly and firmly holds the flaps together. Cements made with sodium silicates are used for lining and laying refractory units, preparing foundry molds and cores.
  5. Gels and Catalysts: Silica Gels are prepared by treating these solutions with acids. These gels are used as filtering agents to clarifying juices and beers and also used for making thermal insulation materials.

The above applications describe the wide application of sodium silicate liquids. There are number of Alkaline Sodium Silicate Liquid and Neutral Sodium Silicate Liquid Suppliers in India who provide both grades of sodium silicate liquid at best prices. One should identify the application of different grades to fulfill his demand.
