Metallic expansion bellows are also known as compensators and these are mainly used in equipments and pipelines to connect various elements which could elongate due to heat, movement and vibrations. These bellows make sure that all the parts of the equipment work efficiently and effectively. These bellows are designed to absorb the movement and vibrations during the process to make sure that the other elements in the machinery are not affected by the high temperature & pressure and work efficiently.

These metal expansion bellows are used in machines, equipments, pipelines, engines and containers. These contain one or sometimes more metal bellows and a tie rod, the shape of which depends upon the kind of machinery for which it is used. These expansion joints are used as an alternate solution for pipelines and are used in paper, petrochemical, oil and many other industries.

Metallic expansion joints are mainly used in duct mechanisms and pipe lines to ensure that no damage is caused due to high temperature, thermal expansion, high pressure, vibrations and other forces. Any two pipes which are connected to each other could experience some stress due to a number of reasons like: Pressure from inside or outside during work

Thermal expansion

The pipe’s weight and the weight of the components that it supports

The movement of the pipe due to the working mechanism.

Depending upon the kind of industry in which they are used, metal expansion bellows are available in many different options. These are mainly used in connecting vessels and pumps within a pipeline. These expansion bellows are designed in such a way that they can move comfortably in lateral, axial or angular directions. In case that more flexibility is needed in a certain mechanism, this is achieved by adding pivots, ties and many other forms of trimmings to the bellows. These devices are extremely durable and their life span can vary from one to the other depending upon the temperature, pressure and vibrations that they are subjected to.

One of the most common metallic expansion bellows are the exhaust bellows are used in engines to absorb the extreme heat and vibrations. These are subjected to high temperature and vibrations and are designed to absorb these in order to make sure that the other parts close to it are not affected by the heat and the vibrations and function properly to make the engines functional and efficient. Let us look at the features which make them perfect for these situations

They can absorb temperature as high as 1200degrees.

They can absorb heavy vibrations.

They compensate for any thermal expansions.

These are compact and can be used in places where space is less.

Thus, metallic expansion bellows are very important in many industries for the smooth functioning of the machines.
