For all hopefuls desiring success in this examination, awareness of the GATE 2025 Statistics Exam Pattern is very crucial. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, conducted by IIT Roorkee, has an exam that checks a candidate's learning skills for subjects such as statistics. General Overview of the GATE Statistics Exam Pattern 2025

GATE Statistics paper has 65 questions that are mainly divided into two sections: General Aptitude and Statistics. Questions have been divided in this pattern:

There are two parts in the exam-General Aptitude and Statistics. The General Aptitude section consists of 10 questions, which comprises of 5 one-mark questions and 5 two-mark questions, that is 15 marks. In the Statistics section, there are 55 questions that contain 25 one-mark questions and 30 two-mark questions, for which the total marks are 85. Thus, the overall number of questions and marks will be 65 and 100, respectively.

  1. General Aptitude Section:- The total marks compiled in this section are 15, with 5 one-mark questions and 5 two-mark questions.- This would test all verbal skills, numerical ability, and logical reasoning of the candidates
  2. Statistics Section:The total questions in this section are 55Total marks compiled in this section are 85, with 25 one-mark questions and 30 two-mark questions.It focuses upon the core topics that include Probability, Calculus, Multivariate Analysis, and Regression Analysis. Types of QuestionsThere are two types of questions in GATE Statistics exam.- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): Negative marking is applied here where ⅓ mark is deducted for every incorrect one-mark answer and ⅔ mark is deducted for every incorrect two-mark answer.- Numerical Answer Type (NAT): No negative marking is applied here. Syllabus GATE Statistics Examination encompasses several key topics, which have their respective weightage. The following is the list of the important and estimated percentage of weightage for the topics as under:

  • Probability: 20%- Calculus: 15%- Multivariate Analysis: 10%- Matrix Theory, Stochastic Processes, Estimation, Testing of Hypotheses, and Regression Analysis: Each 8%

Test Duration and Test Mode

  • GATE Statistics Test would be Computer-Based Test (CBT).- The total time the candidate will get is 180 minutes (3 hours), while appearing for this exam.
