If you're headed off to college for the first time, you may be understandable nervous about what lies ahead. College is a special time in your life, and one that shouldn't be taken lightly. However, with the right information, you can make your college years some of the easiest and most enjoyable of your life.

Eat healthy. Many people gain a few pounds their first semester of college. Eat healthy and refrain from eating fast food. Stay away from fast food as much as you can. Such foods might seem quick and inexpensive, but the calories cost you over time, nor are they nutritious enough.

A great skill that you should learn going into college is cooking. This is very important as it can help you to construct the types of meals that you desire and will also assist in saving money on eating out over time. Also, this skill can make you more valuable to your roommates.

Learn your class schedule and where the courses are held well before you actually start. Figure out how long walking will take between classes. You can also find libraries or cafes on your route to study or eat lunch at if you have time.

Make sure that you purchase a pair of flip flops for showers in your dorm. These are essential as you do not know the forms of bacteria that are on the shower floor. Also, they can serve as a form of comfort for you during your shower. Flip flops are inexpensive and can be stylish, as they make a great addition to your shower arsenal.

When you are choosing a major, do not simply think about money. You do not want a career in something that you find boring or uninteresting. A good choice is a major that will keep you interested fifty or more hours a week for the rest of your life. Explore your interests.

When you go to college you often times will stay out late with friends to study or go to a party. Be safe, never walk home alone, carry your phone with you at all times, know where the safe zones are on campus, and consider carrying a small spray canister of pepper spray with you.

Save money while you're in college. This can be tough, especially when you think of how much time you don't have to earn money, and how many things there are to spend money on. Try to save just a few bucks a week that can go for major outings or money crunches.

Take notes in addition to listening to lectures. Taking notes in and of itself aids in learning. This will make it much easier to get the information down when it comes to study time. You may think you can remember everything, but writing notes is a good habit to get into.

Now that you know what's in store for you, you should feel confident about attending college. You will be successful if you work hard and use the tools that are at your disposal. Follow the tips you've just learned, and maybe you will graduate with honors from the school of your choice.
