This is because, every bride wants to look trim and pretty on their wedding day as well as in photographs.

Enduring hours of gruelling fitness regime at the gym isn't the only way to lose a few pounds, healthy eating also helps a lot.

Here are 10 tips from The Californian on how to eat your way to a slimmer, trimmer figure.

If it's not in your house, you won't be tempted to eat it:Clean out your cabinets, pantry and refrigerator. Remove all processed foods by either dumping them or donating to a local food bank. If you share your house with friends or family who are not on board with your plan, designate specific cabinet or refrigerator shelves for unhealthy foods.

Track your food: This can help you lose twice as much weight than if you don't track at all. Use pen and paper or utilize the many online tools to record what you eat throughout the day. Promise yourself to religiously track every bite you take. You will be able to better monitor what you are lacking or having too much of if you write it down.

Eat breakfast: We can't stress this enough. Eating a healthy breakfast will maximize your metabolism and regulate your blood sugar and insulin levels, and you will be less likely to overeat during the day. Studies have shown breakfast eaters tend to consume fewer total calories during the day.

Portion control: The groom may not be into wedding planning as much as the bride, but when it comes to sampling the food, he will be all about it! You have to remember, it's a 'taste testing' - just one or two bites of cake should be sufficient for you to get an idea of what type of cake you want. If you know you're going to sample a variety of sweets one day, cut back on sugary foods for the next few days to get back on track. And be conscious of the portions of foods you are eating daily.

It's a balancing act: Carbohydrates, protein and fat. Most people have the hardest time with carbohydrates. To make this easy, load up on whole fresh vegetables and fruit and cut back on highly processed (soda, artificial sweeteners) or starchy carbohydrates (rice, pasta, potatoes, bread). Eat lean proteins such as chicken, turkey, fish, tofu and lean red meats. Healthy fats include, olive oil, avocado, raw nuts, and all natural nut butters. Stick to a well-balanced eating routine heavy on vegetables and fruit, with protein, healthy fat, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products.

Plan your meals: At the beginning of each week, create a menu plan that you can use as your guide for grocery shopping. It also takes the guessing out of the question, 'What am I going to eat?' If you know what you're going to be eating each day, it will help you reach for the right foods. Plan on eating every three to four hours — five to six small meals with moderate portions throughout the day.

Keep emergency snacks on hand: Carry healthy snacks with you when you are out and about — fruit, raw nuts or protein bars. Stashing healthy foods in your car, purse or desk drawer will not only keep your energy level up, it will also help satisfy your cravings.

Ditch the soda and drink more water: Water flushes out excess sodium so you don't feel bloated. It helps your body get rid of toxins and constant sipping can help keep you from overeating. Grab a bottle you can tote around with you and refill throughout the day. Add a lemon, cucumber, or fresh mint for flavour.

Cut back on booze: A celebratory drink can cost you 150 calories or more... and that's only if you have one! It also lowers your inhibitions, making it more likely that you will forget about your meal planning. Save the cocktails for the wedding.

Pick healthy venues for pre-wedding festivities: There will be parties galore to celebrate your upcoming nuptials. If you have any say, pick a restaurant where you know you can get a good, nutritious meal. While there, focus on your friends and family, enjoy the good conversation and activities instead of hovering around the food.
