Enhance Your Home’s Energy: The Right Way to Place God Idols for Blessing
Posted: Dec 17, 2024
It's believed that the placement of God idols in your home impacts the energy and atmosphere in your living space as far as Vastu Shastra, the ancient Indian science of architecture and design, is concerned. Given below are some guidelines about ideal placement of God idols in your home, keeping aesthetic and spiritual harmony in mind:
1. Ideal Directions for Placement
North-East (Ishan) Corner: This is considered the most auspicious place for placing idols of gods. It is believed to bring positive energy, peace, and prosperity. This direction is associated with Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Lakshmi.
East: Placing idols in the east-facing direction is also considered favorable, as it aligns with the rising sun, symbolizing new beginnings and enlightenment.
North: Another good direction to place idols particularly for the deities representing wealth and prosperity like Lord Kubera, Goddess Lakshmi, or Lord Ganesha.
Do not place idols in:
South or South West: It is generally avoided keeping idols in these directions due to negative energy and disturbances there.
West: While not as inauspicious as south or south-west, idols should generally be avoided from the west side, since it is not considered a traditionally favored direction.
2. Height of the Idol
The idol should ideally be placed at eye level or slightly above eye level. This ensures that you are offering respect and devotion by facing the deity directly and not looking down at it.
It is suggested that the idol should not be placed too high or too low, as this might be considered disrespectful.
3. Placement in the Pooja Room or Mandir
If you have a dedicated pooja room (temple room), place the idol on a clean, elevated platform or altar. The room should be kept clean and free from clutter. You can make the altar from wood or marble, reflecting your spiritual values in the design.
If a pooja room is not available, the idols may be kept in a small shelf or corner in the living room. Ensure it is a quiet and calm place where you can sit and meditate or pray.
4. Idols Arrangement
One Idol Per Deity: Ideally, there should be only one idol of a particular deity so that it is not diffused and the focus and reverence are maintained. However, for multi-deity worship, you can place small idols or pictures in a row or grouping.
Facing the Right Direction: Ensure that all idols are facing the correct direction. For example, Lord Ganesha faces the front or east while Lord Shiva is placed to face north, and so on.
Do not Keep Idols of Different Deities in the Same Room: It is often advised that one should not keep different types of deities in the same room. This depends on personal belief and the size of the idol space. Each deity should be kept in its own place.
5. Cleanliness and Care
Regular Cleaning. Idols and pooja space should be cleaned time and again. Idols must never be covered by dust or dirt as hygiene is considered a sign of respect.
Offerings and Light. Fresh flowers, incense, lamp, or candle can also be placed near the idol for offering respect and calming down the atmosphere during their prayers.
6. Lighting and Ambience
It must be well-illuminated, using natural light when possible and soft lights, such as a lamp or diya, when that's not practical.
Surrounding spaces should also be quiet, peaceful, and free of distractions for a peaceful concentration of mind and undisturbed performance of prayers or meditation.
7. Respecting Reverence
Always approach the idols with respect. Never place idols on the ground or in a place where they could be overlooked or ignored.
Avoid keeping idols in bathrooms or near places of impurity, such as near trash cans or beneath staircases.
8. Special Considerations for Specific Deities
Lord Ganesha: Must be kept in the north-east corner or even towards the east. According to belief, keeping Ganesha near the door invites prosperity.
Lord Shiva: Must be kept towards the north. The deity should be seated in the pose of meditation or be doing an Abhishekam.
Lakshmi: Goddess Lakshmi idols should be placed in the north-east or north direction, facing the north or east, as this will bring wealth and prosperity in your home.
9. Other Deities
Lord Vishnu: In the north-east or east direction. His idol may face east too, as that is a symbol of peace and harmony.
Goddess Saraswati: This goddess of knowledge is best placed in the west direction, which represents learning and wisdom.
Following these guidelines will balance and align the energy in your home with positive spiritual forces, which enhances your connection with the divine and invites peace, prosperity, and harmony into your life.
