India Quick Commerce Battle

E-commerce giant Amazon is set to compete with quick commerce incumbents like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Big Basket and Zepto with the launch of their new quick commerce reportedly known as Amazon Tez. In Amazon's Sabhav 2024 submit on Dec 10th, Samir Kumar the Country manager for Amazon India has announced the Amazon's new pilot quick ecommerce service which will aim at providing everyday essentials to their customers in not more than 15 minutes.

With the entry of a behemoth like Amazon in the rapidly growing quick commerce space, other fishes like Swiggy and Zomato could have a tough time competing with them. After the news of Amazon's entry got confirmed shares of Zomato and Swiggy fell by more than 4% on Wednesday on 11 dec 2024.

Currently, the Indian quick e-commerce market is valued at $ 3.34 billion and is expected to reach at almost $10 billion in 2029 and Amazon wants to make a mark for itself in this growing industry.

With their new quick commerce service, the company focuses on value, convenience and speed to counter the threat posed by modern quick commerce startups like Blinkit and Instamart and at the same time build higher profits.

The company plans to start its first pilot project in Bengaluru with 1000-2000 products and then further expand to other cities.

Quick commerce is the booming sector in India, and have potential to grow in futures. Players like blinkit and instamart are backed by big investors like softbank.

Report says that quick commerce capture half of the kirana store sales and it will achive $40 billion Industry by 2030. Since these 15 minute delivery concept and existing platforms like Blinkit and Zepto have become popular in the last few years, they have started eating into the market share of Amazon and Flipkart which takes atleast 1-2 days to deliver. That's why Flipkart launched its quick commerce platform Bigbasket and now Amazon has also entered the vibrant quick commerce industry.

Existing quick-commerce players are gradually capturing the market share of e-commerce business of Amazon Nykaa, Myntra and with their new quick commerce platform, Amazon aims to counter it and make inroads in the rapidly growing quick commerce sector of India.
