In this article, I’m gonna discuss about such a part that we all know and present in every vehicle. That is headlights, we all know how headlights are very helpful while driving during dark night. But there is an advanced version of headlights that are installed in BMW and similar cars, those headlights are known as adaptive headlights. In this article, you will know about the symptoms of bad adaptive headlights.
Adaptive headlights malfunction and its symptoms
Headlights are the electrical parts of a that are two in number and are located at the front most part of the car. These are used to light up the area at the front of the car to make the driver see the roads and everything in front of the car while driving in during dark nights. These consists of large bulbs that emit enough light that car make all the things clearly visible up to some distance in front of the car. The adaptive headlights are just the advanced version of those headlights that are present in many luxury cars like BMW. These headlights can work like normal headlights but they also have some smart features that would be very helpful during driving.
The adaptive headlights can make the projection of light turned to left or right when the steering is turned. For example, if you are driving on a straight road and then you have to turn left, so you turned the steering wheel to left. So, when the car starts to turn, the headlights would turn the projection of light towards left which would allow you to see before you turn the car to that direction. this helps in preventing the accidents by collision of your car with other objects or any pedestrian or cyclists who are not noticed by the driver. As the driver is able to see at that side properly, he would not make the car to hit any other vehicle, person or anything and accident would not happen.
There is another feature that is available in the adaptive headlights of some models of BMW, this feature enables the headlights to change the brightness of light. Because if there I no more need of lights in a particular time, why the headlights would glow with such intensity? While you are driving on a road and there is a car the front of your car coming towards you, the headlight of the car would be on, at that time some light sensors at your headlights sense the light of the other car and immediately make the light intensity low.
But if your adaptive headlights have some faults, then you would not be able to use those features and the chances of having accidents would rise, the car would no longer be safe like before. So, it’s better to get the headlights diagnosed. And for that you have to know that adaptive headlights are malfunctioning. You have to identify the problem by looking at the signs. Here are some common signs of adaptive lights malfunction in BMW.

Faulty stepped motor
The stepper motor is controlled by the headlight’s module because this motor makes the turning of the projection of light. This motor sometimes gets burned or develop some internal damage, due to which the adaptive headlight would not work.
Faulty headlight seal
There is a seal at the headlight housing which stops the water or moisture to enter into the system. This seal may get damaged sometimes and hence it allows the water and moisture to enter easily and damage the adaptive headlight parts.
