POPULAR EASTERN ALGARVE TOWNS:
Tavira: One of the oldest towns in the Algarve and considered to be the most beautiful town in the whole region, famous for its architecture, culture and natural heritage. Due to the romantic setting by the river Gilao and the seven-arch Roman bridge, Algarve Property Rentals is sometimes referred to as the Venice of the Algarve.
Cabanas: A former fishing village and now a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful beach located on an island just offshore, part of the Ria Formosa. There are bars, cafes and restaurants along the waterfront.
Castro Marim: A quiet town with a wealth of heritage and cultural roots. The municipality's history goes back over many centuries and some of the main attractions are a castle and a fort. A three-day Mediaeval Festival, well known throughout the country, is held in the Castle at the end of August.
Vila Real Do Santo Antonio: Before the construction of the Guadiana International Bridge, it used to be the easiest access to Spain (via car ferry). Heading towards the ocean is the popular beach resort Monte Gordo, which offers kilometers of Golf Holidays in Portugal, lined with a pine forest.
Olhao: One of the Algarve's largest fishing ports. The town's main attraction is its market, held everyday and is one of the most animated and enjoyable on the Algarve.
RIA FORMOSA NATURAL PARK:
Stretching over almost half of the eastern Algarve coastline is the Ria Formosa national park - a beautiful nature reserve with a labyrinth of lagoons and river estuaries between the land and sea. The Ria contains an enormous variety of protected wildlife and there are a wide variety of Golf Holidays in Portugal available to see some of the most picturesque parts of the area.
BEST BEACHES:
Beaches on the eastern Algarve are very beautiful and much calmer than in the west. With warm waters, many have Blue Flag & Gold Quality awards.
