Contact lenses India have become very popular in recent times as they let people substitute their prescription glasses with the lens which gives them the corrective vision. Contact lenses are used as a prescription item or also used for cosmetic reasons.

A majority of people shift from wearing glasses to contact lenses for aesthetic reasons. Lenses can enhance the regular tint of your eyes and the coloured contact lenses can even change the colour of your eyes. Whatever be the reasons, the lenses certainly offer a few benefits over the prescription glasses.

What are its Benefits?

The lenses are superior to the prescription glasses in the following ways:

  • Moisture in the form of snow, rain, water vapour or sweat doesn’t collect on them.

  • Wearers of lenses can use goggles or sunglasses without needing to have prescription glasses fitted on to them.

  • Specific eye conditions like aniseikonia and keratoconus can be rectified better with the use of lenses.

Classification of Lenses

Contact lenses India are classified into several categories based on the function, materials used, replacement and wear schedule.

Based on the functionality you have the Corrective contact lenses and the Cosmetic contact lenses. Corrective lenses are meant to correct the vision whereas Cosmetic ones help in altering the appearance of your eyes. The coloured contact lenses come in this category.

Based on the materials used there are three types; namely the rigid, soft and the hybrid variety. The rigid ones are tougher, last longer and are suitable to be worn in adverse environments. Soft lenses which are a more recent introduction permit greater oxygen permeability and hence are more adaptable and comfortable to the eye. Hybrid lenses combine the advantages of the rigid lenses and the comfort of soft lenses.

Based on the wear and replacement schedule, the lenses are classified as daily disposable lenses or lenses to be disposed bi-weekly or after an extended period of use say a month or three to six months or a year.

Precautions to be followed while handling your contact lenses

  • Do not ever use your contact lenses after their stated period of use is over as this can cause irritation and prove harmful to your eye.

  • Wash hands with anti-bacterial soap, rinse and dry thoroughly before handling your lenses.

  • Ensure that your fingernails are kept at reasonable lengths as inserting and removal of lenses from your eyes is done by placing them on your fingertips. Having long finger nails can enhance the chance of unknowingly causing harm to the eye.

  • Avoid using hairspray to do your hair before putting your lenses into the eye and the same holds good for makeup too. Makeup should be applied only after the lenses are inserted into your eye.

  • Remove the lenses before you go to bed. Do not forget to use the recommended solution while storing the lenses overnight or putting any prescribed eye drops.

  • Lastly, it always helps to keep a prescription glasses handy in case your lenses prove too irritable so that you can substitute them with the glasses for a while.

  • While buying your contact lenses it is essential to look at the reputation of the online or physical store. Lenses Direct is one such reliable online store which stocks reputed brands of contact lenses
