Hyundai Elantra GT - More Style and Versatility for 2016
Posted: Mar 16, 2015
The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show this month. While the Elantra GT may share features of last year's model, there are some significant exterior changes, including a redesigned grille with horizontal chrome-and-silver slats, a new set of sharp 17-inch alloy wheels and new LED taillights.
Hatchbacks are all about versatility and flexibility. The five-door 2016 Elantra GT delivers 23 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, and 51 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats down. This compares quite nicely with many compact crossover cars in the marketplace today. The GT has a shallow storage tray under the cargo floor; a deep center console bin next to the USB port for smartphones, a cooled glove box and a center armrest with a sliding cover. You will find these added security features handy when you want to stow your phone or computer as you run into the grocery or stop at a gas station. The redesigned interior now has room to accommodate a new seven-inch, touch-screen-based information/entertainment system that incorporates Apple’s Siri voice recognition system and HD radio. The 2016 Elantra GT offers for the first time the new Bluelink system with remote starting and Google-based travel assistance.
To improve handling, the GT has a new upside-down V-shaped strut front and twist-beam rear suspension. The GT hatches have also upgraded to Sachs rear shocks for better ride control. The five-door has impressive road presence, which can be improved even more with optional wheels and tires.
Safety is always a major concern with Hyundai. All GT hatchbacks have seven airbags, including a driver knee airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control. The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT has an impressive list of standard features, including remote keyless entry, heated front seats, an AM/FM/CD/XM sound system with satellite radio, USB and Bluetooth, 16-inch wheels, a rear spoiler and wiper, tilt/telescoping steering, cruise control, and steering-wheel audio controls. To further personalize your 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT, add options like sport suspension, a panoramic sunroof, 10-way power driver seat, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, leather seats and trim, a rearview camera, navigation and automatic headlights.
The 2016 Hyundai Elantra comes with some technical innovations, including a standard 2.0-liter Nu engine with a choice of either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC® manual shift control. The new Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) system helps improve engine response through direct fuel injection to increase power and provide greater fuel efficiency. Rated at 173 horsepower and 154 lb.-ft. of torque, the EPA has rated the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT at up to 24 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. Greater fuel economy means more money in your pocket.
You have to agree, the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT is not your average hatchback. This year's model has it all — spiffy European styling, improved driving power and control, along with economical gas mileage. What's even better — you get all this at a very reasonable price.
