Shining Stars of Indian Education System: IIMs

All thanks to Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru and the then Planning Commission of India, for conceiving an idea of world class campuses for Management and Research Studies in India and making Indian education proud.

The IIMs have brought many accolades and proud moments to India since their very existence.

The Indian Institutes of Management have been producing a large group of excellent managers in various sectors year by year who have been the main pillars of success to many corporate giants. Not only in corporate world, The Indian Institutes of Management has gifted us many renowned personalities in various fields chosen by them to tread upon with their free will.

Currently India has 14 of such world class campuses spread in various cities of India. The Indian Institutes of Management are autonomous and public societies which have independent control over their day to day operations. Five new Indian Institutes of Management are in making to cope up with the need of changing population and industry requirements.

Indian Institutes of Management offer various courses like

  • The two-year Post Graduate programs in Management (PGP),

  • The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM),

(These post graduate diploma programs are considered equivalent to regular MBA programs. One-year Post Graduate diploma Program for graduates with more work experience.)

  • The Fellow Program in Management (FPM), a doctoral program. The Fellowship is considered to be equivalent to PhD globally

  • Many IIMs also offer short-term executive education/EMBA courses and part-time program.

Different IIMs are known for different areas of specializations like specialized studies in Computer Management, Health care, Administration of Public enterprises, Financial Portfolio management, labor management, personnel management, rural management etc.

IIMS provide world class environment and infrastructure for management studies and the highest quality education in Management in India. Therefore getting into an IIM is a dream of almost every student in India and even abroad. The most reputable management institutes in India, IIMs have maintained their distinction.

But getting into Indian Institutes of Management is not as easy praising the IIMs. To get an admission in management programs at an IIM, a student should have completed a Bachelor’s degree in any stream and has to appear for CAT (Common Ability Test). After scoring qualifying marks in CAT/GMAT, a candidate also has to appear in a Group Discussion and a round of Personal Interview.

Moreover IIMs do not give admission solely on the basis of the CAT scores. IIMs also check for past academic records and work experience. A candidate has to qualify in the combined computing process of both the CAT scores, past academic records and the work experience, to receive a call from an IIM.
