The 2016 Toyota Tacoma is a brand new beast. After a decade without any significant changes, it has been completely redesigned. The new midsized truck has been radically changed from the inside out. It has more power, an angrier, more muscular look, stands higher off the ground and looks ready to pounce. However it has a roomier, more luxurious interior, more high-tech doodads and loads of safety features. No, this isn't the last generation Toyota Tacoma. This beautiful beast shows that Toyota is ready to challenge the industry's best midsized trucks.

Inside, the all-new 2016 Toyota Tacoma has a host of trendy new features giving it a more comfortable, modernized feel. They include leather seats, soft appointments, dual climate controls, a spanking new touchscreen audio system, a moonroof, Qi wireless charging, push-button ignition, circular vents, and a more user-friendly dashboard. They all add up to give it a more luxurious look and feel. Add smart key technology, well-placed knobs, buttons, and gauges (some bracketed with silver trim), and you have a truck that's strong enough for a man, but will please the women in his life too.

From the outside, the new Tacoma has a fiercer, more rugged stance and an aggressive new look. It begins with a hexagonal grille, a front-end that's broader and squarer, fenders that are more boxed and buffed, a huge air dam for improved efficiency added below the bumper, slim, mean-looking projector headlights wrapped round the front, heavier wheel flares, and a hood that's taller and stronger looking. They all come together to make the 2016 Toyota Tacoma look like it's ready to morph into beast mode and angrily power through anything in its way.

The new Tacoma is designed with safety in mind as well. It comes with the latest blind-spot monitoring system, cross traffic alert, a new Multi-Terrain Select system for better traction and braking on sand, slick rocks or roadways, or mud (yes, you can safely take this exciting beast off-road), more high-strength steel in the frame for better rigidity and a new suspension for a safer, smoother ride. Sure, you can live dangerously and go through the muck and mire, but the upgraded safety features of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma are designed to better protect you if you do.

Toyota has made significant changes under the hood of the Tacoma as well. The 2016 model features a powerful new 3.5-liter lean-burn Atkinson cycle V-6 engine with lots more horsepower and torque for improved towing. Its added direct injection also gives improved fuel economy. It can be mated with either the new six-speed automatic or manual transmission. Plus with its new powertrain, hill-start assist, crawl control, electronic limited-slip and locking rear differential, and rear- or four-wheel drive, you can go anywhere faster and easier than ever before.

The 2016 Toyota Tacoma is sure to please its long-time fans and attract new ones. Whether they choose the base SR, SR5, TRD Off-Road, or TRD Sport, for $19,000, or the top-of-the-line Limited with an Access Cab or the bigger Double Cab, for around $34,000, they're sure to be impressed. It has a richer, more comfortable, high-tech interior, more powerful engine, improved transmission and better gas mileage. Even from behind, which is how most other drivers will see it, the new Tacoma looks awesome. It has sharper creases in the rear quarter panel, an integrated rear spoiler, and a locking, damped tailgate with Tacoma splashed across the lower edge.

The GoPro mount located near the rearview mirror comes standard and allows off-roaders to instantly upload their Tacoma adventures to YouTube.
