Four Quick Tips Of Personal Improvementto a Better You
Posted: Mar 30, 2015
Every day is another opportunity to become more than what we were yesterday. There’s nothing like stagnation that drains the spark and vivacity out of our life. To avoid what Thoreau calls "a life of quiet desperation," make a conscious effort every day to inch—and some day’s even leap—forward. Below are some tips on how you can become a better, richer, happier person today than you were before.
- Wake up early. It has been observed that most successful people are early risers. Though hard, you need to discipline yourself. You have to make the urge to rack you lazy bones, hit the snooze button of your alarm clock and wake upearly in the morning. Doing this will not only save you some time for your morning coffee and a hearty breakfast, but also give you enough time for a quick invigorating jog. By having sufficient time in hand you’re able to transit smoothly into another day and plan for the entire day or week ahead instead of beginning it with rush and stress. You’re also able to start ahead of everyone, whichmakesyou feel more in control.
- First things first. "If it has to happen, then it has to happen first," writes Laura Vanderkam, the author of What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast. Highly effective people stick to this strategy. Tackling the most important and urgent matters at the start of the day will lend you a sense of accomplishment and empower you to do more.
Hold off on checking Facebook or Twitter, answering e-mails, or spending half an hour on Pinterest. These are not the best way to set your day’s momentum. Instead, take advantage of the fresh supply of willpower and energy that you have when you wakeup to do the most challenging and urgent tasks and cross them off your to-do list.
3. Have a personal project. We all have our own passion. Take outsome time for your passion. It’s easy to skip this when we’re swamped with work, but there’s no better way to stamp out misery and feel excited and more alive than having a chance to do something we love.
4. Connect. Life shouldn’t be all about work. Strike a balance and nurture your relationships. It doesn’t have to eat much of your time. Making it a point to be present in family dinners, having regular dates or how-was-your-day conversations with your spouse, or taking your kids out during weekends would go a long way into keeping you connected. Remember to also invite friends or colleagues for an occasional coffee or dinner. This would not only be a great way to catch up on each other’s life, but to network as well.
