Down The Hole (DTH) Drilling is performed to convert piles into rocks, mining, digging water wells and also to drill bores for geothermal heat pumps. Its main use can be seen in mining, in which a drill operator will drill several holes slightly apart from each other and then bust those holes with explosives to seek direct access to the ores. While, in the construction industry, DTH drill tools are used mostly to perform footings and pilings. All of these facts indicate that drilling is an important operation across different applications, but what is not very clear is the importance of having the right tools to perform the operation seamlessly. There are three tools that perform the core operations, which are DTH hammers, button bits and drill pipes. Each of them has a role to fulfil, properly doing which will make the operation a success. All three of the tools have specific functions, but here, we are more concerned with what drill pipes do rather than what the other two do.

Drill pipes initiate the drilling operation

If one says that drill pipes are responsible to begin a drill, then it won't be an overstatement because drill pipes are indeed the initiators of a drilling operation. A DTH drill pipe will play a very significant role irrespective of the hole depth, rock type, drill rig or application. These pipes are durable, manageable, accurate, and are made up of superior alloy. DTH Button Bits drill the hole, but only after being forced by the hammer to do that, and where does the hammer get his powers from? You guess it right, it is a DTH drill pipe that provides them the power. A drill pipe would impart high air pressure into the hammer, who further translates that pressure into impact energy and apply it to the bits, which in turn do the drilling.

Different diameters and lengths of a standard DTH Drill Pipe

DTH drill pipes are available in different diameters and lengths to suit all types of applications for which they are to be used. Different diameters in which a standard drill pipe is available are: 76 mm, 89 mm, 102 mm, 114 mm, 127 mm and 140 mm while the corresponding lengths of such pipes are: 1000 mm, 1500 mm, 2000 mm, 3000 mm, 5000 mm and 6000 mm. You can choose any size depending on your applications and make your drilling, mining or quarrying operation a success.
