Brass is an alloy having copper and zinc, which are varied to make variety of brasses. Brass metal has excellent acoustic and malleability properties and which is why it is preferred for making wide range of musical instruments. The Various Features of Brass are given below:

Strength: When annealed or softened, brass exhibits ductile properties; and when hardened via cold working, its strength increases significantly. Brass is a durable metal; and bars, rolled sheets and plates made from it are used widely for making containers and various products that would be required to work under pressure.

Ductility: Brass can be easily deformed at room temperature as copper content present in the brass is greater than 63%. Owing to the property, brass is used for manufacturing variety of complex components with the aid of simple spinning, pressing, cold forming processes etc. The room temperature ductility minimizes only when copper present in brass is below 63% and no other alloy is present in it.

Conductivity: Brass is known to have astoundingly good thermal and electrical conductivities. The conductivity feature of brass also makes the metal superior to nickel-based alloy, ferrous alloys and titanium. Brass is used in condensers and heat exchanger tubing as these need excellent thermal conductivity.

Easily Joined: Brass can be easily joined to copper alloys and various metals via many commercial joining processes like friction welding, riveting, brazing, soft soldering and modern adhesive joining practice.

Corrosion Resistance: Brass is used in many applications because it is resistant to corrosion. The metal has a thin protective green "patina" and it does not rust away like other metals such as steel and iron. Tubes, valves, tube fittings etc. are made from brass because the metal does not corrode due to sea water and steams.

Wear Resistance: Brass is known to have lubricating effect that leads to excellent friction flow in plates, gears, pinion etc. When additions of silicon are provided to brass, it can be used for making heavy duty bearings too.

Machining: Components made form brass cost less in comparison to components made from various other metals due to cost-effective machining. When lead is added to brass, its properties get enhanced, and components reflect excellent surface finish.

Owing to its many properties, brass is used for making myriad range of products.
