Syria faces one of the worst crisis of our times and medical aid forms a very important part of the relief measures attempted in the country by a large number of governmental and non-governmental organizations in the country. The voluntary teams working under the medical aid segment have covered a major part of the country now. However, these teams are forced to work under dangerous conditions. Some of the activities done by the relief groups under the medical segment include delivery of essential medical supplies, emergency treatments, medical training, ambulance facilities and establishing new medical units and hospitals. Your participation in this noble activity can help a number of Syrians come out of critical illnesses and deaths.

At a time when the need is rather very high, the war and conflict in the zone has completely shattered the health system in Syria. While the voluntary organizations are intensifying the medical aid activities in the region, thousands of healthcare workers have been forced to flee from the region besides a large number of them being killed. More than 50% of the hospitals established recently have been totally destroyed or damaged. The instances of bombing, shelling and gunfire in addition to incendiary attacks and chemical arms have caused grave injuries to a large number of people in the country. The conditions in the country are rendered unhygienic and as a consequence, there is a severe attack of diseases. Some of the worst health conditions include polio attacks, malnutrition and hypothermic conditions encouraged by the severe winter.

The relief groups are engaged in building new hospitals in the region. Special hospitals for women and children are also being found and run in these places. A large number of new projects are in the pipeline to be accomplished since the demand is huge and the facilities are scarce. Some of the costs incurred by the medical aid groups in the country include supply of drugs and other medical equipment, and dressing and surgical equipment. One big challenge faced by the relief groups is the inaccessibility of a number of regions. In such cases, the supplies are hauled in cars and motor bikes. During severe health conditions and injuries, the quick availability of medical support can prevent loss of life. Therefore, supplying ambulances with the life care facilities is one of the major expenses incurred during the medial relief activities in Syria.

Yet another important activity that goes on in the medical relief segment is training the new and existing doctors. There are a good number of highly qualified and excellent doctors in Syria. However, the newer demands of the situations pose some challenges in front of them that are difficult to be attended to without training. The doctors of the country are being trained with some special skills. The relief groups are employing the local doctors and training them in order to ensure that the medical aid continues in the country. Also the training to these doctors and medical staff pertains to treating war related injuries and the conditions forced by displacement and malnutrition. While a lot is to be done in these lines, every small help rendered to further the cause of medical aid in the country can intensify the relief activities in Syria.
