Based upon the revised paper pattern of NET\ SET exams, some guidelines are provided which could be useful to the aspirants.

The paper pattern for the NET exam is as follows: There are 3 papers – Paper I, Paper II and Paper III. Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. For Paper I regular practice on questions related to reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness is required.

Paper II and Paper III consist of questions covering the entire syllabus of the subject opted by the candidate. As per the new examination pattern, no electives are given to the candidates in Paper III, which means they have to study the full syllabus of their respective subjects given by the UGC. Even in this case, candidates are advised to commence the study with their strong (favorite) areas and get the confidence in many such areas rather than spending more time on one or two unknown ones. Emphasize more on the core aspects of the topic i.e. meaning, definitions etc. Topics like advantages, disadvantages, importance etc has to be given less priority. There is no need to mug up the points as long questions are out of the picture.

Understanding the question is very important as majority of the questions are asked in a twisted or indirect manner. Do not waste time on unknown questions, leave it and go for the next question. Once all known questions are attempted, try the left out ones. It is also to be taken care that no questions are left out as there is no negative marking.
