Magnesite is the term given to the naturally occurring carbonate of magnesium. It is one of the natural resources used to create magnesia and fused magnesia. Lots of chemical suppliers such as Calcined Magnesite Powder Suppliers offer this powder or fused Magneia by applying heat to Mangnesite. Fused Magnesite is further used to produce other chemicals.

Fused Magensia

Fused Magnesia is a chemical manufactured by melting caustic Calcined Magnesia with the help of electric arc. Generally, raw Magnesite is heated in furnaces using extreme temperatures, ranging up to 2750 degree Celsius, to produce a refractory product with altered crystalline structure. This product (Fused Magnesite) is superior in characteristics and performance when compared to other materials.

Uses of Fused Magnesia

Fused Magnesia has three products namely, Calcined Magnesia, Deadburn Magnesia and Fused Magnesia, which are used in a variety of industrial applications.

  • Calcined Magnesia: Calcined Magnesia is used in many agricultural and industrial applications such as feed supplement to cattle, fertilizers, industrial filler and electric insulation.

  • Deadburned Magnesia: Deadburn Magnesia is used extensively in refractory applications. It is the best heat containment material as it can tolerate high temperatures and has the highest melting point among common refractory oxides. This material is used for manufacturing basic bricks and granular refractory.

  • Fused Magnesia: Fused Magnesia is considered superior in comparison with Deadburn Magnesia in terms of its strength, abrasion resistance and chemical stability. Fused Magnesia is used in refractory and insulator industries for its properties. Refractory grades and electrical grades producing factories use this type of Fused Magnesia in their production process.

  • Refractory Grade Fused Magnesia

Adding Fused Magnesia grains to refractories such as magcarbon bricks can increase performance and durability of basic refractories used in various industrial applications. Due to its good resistance to corrosion, Refractory Grade Fused Magnesia is added to raw materials during steel making process.

    Electrical Grade Fused Magnesia

Electrical Grade Fused Magnesia is added as an electrical insulating material to prevent heating up of elements. Electrical Grades of Fused Magnesia have a fixed specification and contain sufficient amount of silica to enhance its electrical properties. They are used in electrical grade cement by combining Electrical Grade Fused Magnesia and plasticizers and hardeners that are used to produce hot plates in toasters, sandwich makers and irons.

Magnesite can be derived by both natural sources such as primarily Magnesite and synthetic sources like seawater, natural brines and deep sea salt beds.
