It has been found that over 80 percent of accidents that happen on the road are a result of driving in poor light or darkness. Headlights let you drive safely in the night and during other times when the weather does not give you a good view of the road ahead. Headlights help you avoid running your car into other vehicles, obstacles and pedestrians on the road. Headlights also prevent other vehicles from banging into your car by informing them of your presence on the road.

It was in the late 1880s that people began to use headlights while driving. The headlights back then, used oil or acetylene. The first electric headlight was produced by a company called Hartford, in the year 1898.

Headlights today, are available in a variety of different types car headlights like Xenon, Halogen and LED lights.

Halogen Lights

Halogen lights consist of halogen gas and tungsten filaments. These are the most commonly used headlights. However, you need to be very careful when you replace these bulbs as they are highly reactive. Also, halogen bulbs require a lot of energy as they generate a lot of heat. However, halogen lights are very economical as they are inexpensive. They last for a long time and are hence, very convenient. Halogen lights can work for about 1000 hours. You can go online shopping portals that deals with car spare parts and have a look at different halogen lights from brands like Osram, Hella and Speedwav.

Xenon Lights

Xenon headlights were first used by the BMW 7 series of cars in the 1990s. These headlights are also called High Intensity Discharge (HID ) lights. Xenon lights are manufactured with a mixture of different gases and other rare metals. They produce much more light than halogen lights and are thus very bright. They are also very easy to operate as they require much less energy than halogen lights. Xenon lights can be used for over 2,000 hours. This makes them very durable and efficient. However, they can annoy other drivers on the road due to the glare they produce, which can increase with the presence of dirt and grime. This can be avoided if you change the direction of the lights and aim it towards the ground while you are on the road.

LED Lights

LED lights are especially helpful when you drive in bad weather. They do not have the glare that Xenon produce. On the other hand, they require much less energy than halogen lights do. LED lights are highly reliable as they last for a very long time. They are also very stylish as they can be used to create exciting shapes and designs.

Driving your car without good headlights can be very dangerous, especially if you drive your car at night. Do not postpone the task of getting good car headlights. If your busy schedule does not allow you to visit stores, you can shop car headlights online and browse through reliable brands like Vheelocityin, Philips and Lumax to find the one that suits your car.
