The importance of Down The Hole (DTH) drilling among all of the drilling operations is known to all as it is used quite vehemently in different applications such as construction and water well drilling to name a few. Any operation, not necessarily a DTH drilling operation, comes only to fruition when the processes applied are correct and performed according to the set plan. Similar is the case with dth drilling, whose tools need to work according the plan to make the drill operation a success. There are three primary tools, under the bracket of dth drill string, on which hinges the success of the operation; those tools are dth drill pipes, hammer and button bits, with each of them require to perform a specific function to make sure that the operation goes along smoothly. Among the three of them, drill pipes initiate the operation and are the most important link in the chain of events that take place after the initiation.

Drill pipes start the drilling operation

Drill pipes, in simple words, initiate the drill operation; regardless of the application they are being used in, drill pipes work very well. Since they initiate the operation and in a way produce the power that is needed for the drill bits to drill through the surface, this is why they have been made very durable to last really long. Another of a main feature about them is their accuracy; they are immaculately accurate and that helps in the drill string, as a whole, to drill the exact spot that was supposed to be drilled, not an inch here nor there. The least talked about feature of them is they are highly manageable. The strength is imparted to the drill pipes via its manufacturing material, which is the prime quality alloy. A DTH drill pipe is available in different lengths and diameters to cater well to the varied requirements of different applications. Based on the application type, a drill pipe is chosen accordingly.

How does a Dth drill pipe work

The first bit of work that they perform is to summon a high air pressure to hammer and the drill bits along with rotational force. It directly impacts the bits, while the hammer, upon converting the air pressure into impact energy, gives the bits the guidance and stability to drill deeper. As the bits go deeper, more drill pipes are added to the casing, resulting in the optimal performance of the operation.
