Graphic Design For Android And iPhone Apps
Posted: Apr 29, 2015
Many companies, which are approaching their customers through mobile and iPhone apps, have an asset on today's market and an advantage from companies which are not investing in app design. Due to the overfull demand a lot of design agencies offer app design services, which are challenging and require high level of skills.
I will point out some important things, that you might have in mind when it comes to android app graphic design and graphic design for iPhone app.
Fonts
Two fonts commonly used for android app design are "Droid Sans" and "Roboto". "Droid Sans" is optimized for user interfaces and for comfortable reading on a mobile handset in menus, web browser and other screen text. "Roboto" was created specifically for the requirements of UI and high-resolution screens. "Helvetica" is widely used for graphic design for iPhone apps. However, you are not obliged to use only these fonts. Graphic designer might recommend you one or few fonts which would be appropriate to use in your app.
Colors
Colors of your app should be the colors of your brand. That way users will be able to visually connect app with your company image. Many users will pay attention on how the app looks as well as its functionality. That's why it's important to pay some attention on making icons. People are usually very fond of recognizable icons, for example rag wheels for settings or envelope for messaging. A graphic designer can give a personal touch to these icons, which will make your app stand out from the others.
Size
Mobile App Design is supposed to look good enough on various mobile devices with different screen sizes. If you know which devices are preferred among potential users of your mobile app, you should suggest it to your graphic designer, so he/she can optimize app design to a certain screen size. If you are not familiar with this, then app design should be adjusted to the most popular, middle sized phones (3.2 – 4.6 inches). If necessary, design can be later optimized for devices with smaller screens, or for tablets which have bigger screens.
Graphics
Keeping everything above in mind it's important to always use high resolution images, because low resolution ones will look pixilated. Images should be 264ppi (pixel per inch) or higher and that will make your interface looking crisp and more attractive. Avoid bitmaps and raster graphics and use vector images because they are fully scalable type of graphics. In other words vectors can be scaled up or down without losing any quality. Also be aware of current design trend, which is moving toward a more flat design. App graphic design part is usually made in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator is vector software but Photoshop also has the ability to develop vector graphics.
