Now, when the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed to let the engine warm up quickly. However, once the engine reaches its operating temperature, the thermostat is meant to open up to let the coolant circulate through the radiator for cooling.

This leads to quick buildup of heat inside the engine of your European car, while the radiator remains relatively cool as small amount of coolant is still reaching it.

Furthermore, internal electronic system failures, worn out springs, or accumulation of deposits inside the thermostat housing can adversely affect the functioning of the thermostat in your European car. This is when drivers are going to experience drastic temperature increase after startup, fluctuating temperature gauges, drop in heater performance, and persistent overheating during highway driving.

Clogged Radiator

The radiator is a critical component in the cooling system of your vehicle, and is responsible for releasing engine heat out of your vehicle. Moreover, the radiator is reliant on unrestricted coolant passages internally and unobstructed airflow externally for its optimal functioning.

Over the years, as your vehicle gains miles, the radiator tends to get clogged with mineral deposits, rust particles, degraded coolant, and other contaminants that can adversely affect the flow of coolant and airflow across the radiator surface.

In addition to that, European cars come equipped with compact radiator systems with tightly packed cooling fins to help maximize efficiency; however, they are susceptible to various issues including clogging. As the flow of coolant and air gets severely restricted, you are going to experience persistent engine overheating in your European car.

Cooling Fan Issues

Nowadays, European cars are coming equipped with electronically controlled cooling fans that gets activated whenever additional airflow is required by the radiator. Now, the optimal functioning of these fans is extremely necessary while idling, driving in traffic, or operating the air conditioning system in your vehicle.

At times, it is seen that the electric fan motor, relay fuse, temperature sensor, control module, or fan controller fails, then the airflow across the radiator decreases drastically when you are driving your car. This is when the engine temperature begins to rise notwithstanding the proper functioning of the other components.
