A belt is a loop of flexible material used to mechanically link two or more rotating shafts. They are looped over pulleys and are used as a source of motion to transmit the power efficiently. V belt/ Vee belt / Wedge rope is a basic belt for power transmission. Their cross section shape is trapezoidal and hence the name. The v belt manufacturers use a best combination of the belt and the pulley to get an effective traction, speed of movement, load of bearings and long service life. With an in depth know how of the subject, manufacturers can provide a variety of industrial belts to v belt exporters for the overseas clients.

History

Records show that the v belts were first used in automobiles in 1916. The endless rubber v belts were invented by John Gates in 1917. The most popular multiple v -belt drive was first brought out by Walter Geist of the Allis-Chalmers Corporation. It was patented in 1928 and the brand name Texrope is still in use.

Mechanics

The v shape of the belt tracks in a mating groove in the pulley so that it doesn't slip off during operation. Greater the load, greater is the wedging into the groove. This gives an improved torque transmission while reducing the width and the tension as against that of flat belts. The v belts need larger pulleys for their thicker cross section. Their optimum speed is 1000-7000 ft/min.

For higher requirement of power, two or more v belts are used side by side. This multi-v unit with a matching multi groove pulleys or sheaves is the multi-v-belt drive.

Material

The v belts are generally made of rubber or polymer with embedded fibers. This gives them strength making them super resistant, durable and easy to install as compared to the normal rubber belts.

Well known v belt manufacturers use quality raw materials for the sheaves which meet the stringent standards. They are of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, nylon, etc. The number of grooves, standard key seats, split taper bushings, etc. are the key features of the pulleys.

Application

The multi drive v belts are specially constructed so that they can be used with pulleys of smaller diameters. This reduces the noise and the vibrations produced when in use. These high torque drives offer an optimum performance and sustained service life to the machines. These belts are widely used in wood work machines, fitness machines, compressors, fans, etc.

How to choose

An online search can give you a glimpse of the variety of models available with the v belt dealer in Mumbai. A number of sizes and pitches of belts and pulley combinations which are on offer can be seen there. The types available with the V belt dealer in Mumbai guarantee rigorous use, long life and minimal maintenance. The V belt exporters also get them custom designed from the manufacturers to suit the needs of the international clients.

The applications of multiple V belt drives are multifold and they have become an indispensable part of every industrial setup.
