As Australia's immigration system continues to change, it is more important than ever to have an experienced Mara Agent Brisbane who applicants can trust.

2026 is one of the most significant years in the history of the Australian immigration policy in almost three decades. In addition to a complete overhaul of the governing visa framework and new visa pathways, the applicants and local employers are now operating in a more restrictive environment. By staying informed about these shifts, you can ensure that your visa application stays secure, in compliance and on course.

The Regulatory Overhaul for Migration Agents

The Australian Government have issued new Regulations in place of the 1998 Regulations for 1st April 2026. These regulations, which are under the auspices of the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (OMARA), provide extensive consumer protection:

  • Stronger Crackdowns on Misconduct: The system eliminates loopholes that enabled agents who are barred or suspended from participating in the program to do so via other family businesses or corporate vehicles.
  • Increased Professional Standards: Registered Migration Agents (RMA) are required to undertake annual updated and compulsory Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This keeps your agent up to speed on new and complicated legislation.
  • Mandatory Indemnity Insurance & Civil Penalties: The minimum professional indemnity insurance conditions have been incorporated into the rules and have been formalised, with OMARA having the authority to issue infringement notices for insurance compliance issues quickly.

The changes bring greater levels of service, clearer fee arrangements and more robust legal safeguards for those seeking a visa.

Key Australian Visa Changes

In addition to the changes in agent regulation, there have been significant changes in the skilled and employer-sponsored visa pathways:

  • The Skills in Demand (SID) Visa (Subclass 482): This visa program is fully replacing older temporary visa programs on the Temporary Skill Shortage. It has three levels – Specialist Skills, Core Skills and Essential Skills – which provide quicker processing times and simplified visa pathways to Permanent Residency (PR) under the Subclass 186 visa.
  • New Income Thresholds: The minimum income is adjusted on an annual basis to account for the current market rate. Core Skills Income Threshold is $79,499 per year, Specialist Skills is $146,717 per year.
  • Skilled migrants continue to be an important priority for Queensland State Nominations, including regional pathways (e.g. visa subclass 491 & 191).

Brisbane-based RMA: Why Hire?

Brisbane offers excellent economic opportunities and exciting infrastructure projects to international professionals, students and businesses. Sending a self-prepared application is riskier in terms of a delay or rejection of the application under strict 2026 guidelines.

Working with a local Brisbane RMA provides:

  • Customised Strategy: Knowledge of the needs of both the federal Department of Home Affairs and Queensland nomination policies.
  • Verified Legality: The 7-digit Migration Agent Registration Number (MARN) can be checked at any time on the official OMARA register to verify an agent's credentials.

As standards increase and visa requirements change so quickly, having expert advice makes your Australian migration more likely to succeed.
