Win A Wedding 2015: Dream comes true for winning Grimsby couple
IT WAS all smiles for the Grimsby couple who finally tied the knot after winning a £14,000 wedding.
Around 150 friends and family of Heather Jennings and Hayden Edwards celebrated the couple's marriage at the Brackenborough Arms Hotel, near Louth.
As reported, the Grimsby couple, who met 12 years ago, won our dream £14,000 Win A Wedding package after receiving the highest number of votes from our readers.
Both the "moving" service and the big family celebrations were held at The Brackenborough Arms Hotel, which teamed up with the Telegraph to offer one lucky pair the chance of winning the extravagant package.
And the festivities were just as special for their three children, as son Luca, 3, was acting as page boy and daughters Evie, 5 and Freya, 7, were bridesmaids.
It was the culmination of almost a year of planning since they first discovered they had won the competition in the paper.
Hayden surprised her last year after telling her he had secretly entered the competition.
But, as the groom revealed to the Telegraph, the wedding has really been in the pipeline a lot longer than that.
"This has actually been in the planning for the 12 years we have known each other," Hayden said.
"The whole day has just gone stupidly fast and my wife looks amazing.
"I never ever thought I would actually win the competition – I just entered it for a laugh and a giggle."
Hayden, who services cooling towers for engineering company Costain, made the decision to make his three-year-old son the page boy.
"Because of the job I don't get to see him as often as I would like to," he said.
"He's a real daddy's boy."
Hayden added: "We're still deciding on where to spend the honeymoon and it might end up being spontaneous.
"Heather wants to swim with turtles or something like that!"
Heather said: "The whole day has been fantastic and everything looks amazing.
"When Hayden first told me he had entered the competition, I was a bit like 'oh, OK...'
"But to win was incredible and to have all those people voting for us."
She added: "We were a bit worried about the weather to start off with but that's all cleared up now.
"We decided to go for a sweet-themed wedding so we've got pastel coloured table decorations and a candy floss machine for later."
Heather was a pupil at Whitgift School and Hayden a student at The Humberston School but they often met up in Cleethorpes on nights out with friends.
They were engaged within a year and moved into a home together in Grimsby, as Heather was working in the salon in the House Of Fraser store and Hayden worked as an engineering supervisor, building and cleaning cooling towers around the UK.
Father of the bride Mike Jennings, 60, of Grimsby, said: "I am always proud of my daughter but I am particularly proud of her today, and to do all this via the route of a competition is most extraordinary.
"We are not normally a winning family so all of this has been remarkable."
Hayden's mother Amanda Edwards, 54, of Cleethorpes, said: "I am very proud and I don't think I ever expected this day to arrive but I am so pleased it has.
"Hayden and Heather are soul mates and best friends and we couldn't be more delighted – Heather is like our daughter and today has made her even more like family."
