Development of the weaker sections of society is one of the major concerns of any developing nation. A major part of India comprises of villages which have residents who are devoid of even basic daily necessities. Several organizations have been set up who solely work towards fulfilling and satisfying basic needs of people residing in these interior regions. Various rural development programmes in India serve the weaker sections of society allowing them to come up in life and reach a standard that is at par with that of the residents of urban India. The areas in which work is taken up ranges from different categories such as bringing in electricity, clean drinking water supply, irrigation facilities, etc. They work towards the overall development of the community.

Non-government organizations work with the mission of bringing in the utmost development of villages that covers a major part of the country. Steps are taken towards increasing employment opportunities for the poor and the needy. Work is being done to increase the chances of part time or work from home opportunities for women, who wish to work in order to earn apart from just managing the daily household chores. Rural development in India by NGOs also gives special consideration to the people who fall below the poverty line ratio.

Economical assistance is also granted to people seeking favors when they wish to initiate and start their own small scale ventures. They also support the rural craftsman and encourage their work by supplying them with resources that they require to materialize their thoughts and imaginations. These comprise of the tailors, weavers, embroiders, etc. Rural development programmes in India also takes up initiatives to build schools, colleges and healthcare centers. Sources of income are also enhanced by bringing in opportunities wherein the villagers can work to seek income in the form of daily wages. Initiatives are also taken to work towards the elimination of distinction between mankind on the basis of caste, creed and religion.

Such organizations work with the vision of raising the standards of living of rural India. One of the special aspects touched here which has changed the face of the nation is the way awareness has been created amongst the villagers. Rural development in India by NGOs has taken up extensive work which has shown promising growth and positive outcomes. These organizations are registered groups and all of their activities are accountable. These bodies work in association with other government bodies or sometimes even as partners with other communities. The overall aim of these non government organizations is to enhance and improve the living standards through sustainable methods.
