Reports have claimed that large portions of the movie underwent additional shooting and that references connected directly to China were reconsidered. The Indian Express reported that the production was undertaking significant reshoots as part of a wider strategic makeover. Other reports have suggested that roughly 40% of the film may have been reshot, although the filmmakers have not publicly confirmed every detail surrounding these changes.

However, it would be inaccurate to say that Salman Khan simply transformed the film into an anti-war story at the last minute. India Today reported that sources associated with the production maintained that the film was never intended to glorify war and had always carried a message of peace alongside its portrayal of Indian soldiers.

That makes the new tagline — "May War Rest in Peace" — particularly important. Instead of selling the movie only as a recreation of a military confrontation, Maatrubhumi appears to be positioning itself as a story about soldiers, sacrifice, patriotism and the human cost of conflict.

Crisis III: Reshoots and Salman Khan’s Big-Screen Ambition

The production has also gone through an unusually long period of additional filming and restructuring. Reports in March suggested that approximately 40 days of reshoots were planned to reshape portions of the narrative. Music composer Himesh Reshammiya remains associated with the project.

The repeated changes have inevitably affected the release strategy.

Maatrubhumi was once expected to arrive in April 2026 and was later linked with an Independence Day release. Neither plan materialised. More recent reports from July suggest that the film could now be pushed into 2027, although an official final release date has still not been announced.

Salman Khan Films has also pushed back against some speculation surrounding the project. In July, the production house specifically denied reports about CBFC certification problems and clarified that the film had not yet been submitted to the CBFC at that stage.

Looking Ahead

The journey from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi has therefore become almost as dramatic as the film itself.

A major cast loss, reported reshoots, changes in positioning and continuing uncertainty over the release date have transformed the project significantly. But the delays could also give Salman Khan and director Apoorva Lakhia more opportunity to refine what is clearly being treated as a large-scale patriotic drama.

If Maatrubhumi eventually arrives in 2027, expectations will be enormous. Audiences will not simply be watching another Salman Khan action film. They will be watching the final result of one of the most complicated production journeys in his recent career.
